It's a Rolls Royce engine because Holden couldn't make one to fit.

I often don't buy Airbus A380's, but I'm going to suggest we have to throw the French in here somewhere.

[QUOTE=Beoz;9065358]We have a dual income £90,000 in the UK. We haven't seen a pay rise in 3 years. In fact I had to take a pay cut 2 years ago. Our jobs in Oz are earning us $280,000 dual income and on my fx rate estimation that is £180,000.

Hi my husband has just been offered a job in Melbourne and we are still working on a package. he is in IT and has a senior engineer design post here all in at £115k. We dont know what he should be looking at for wages as he is very specialist but not too much demand your comments and others about salary ie someone else say $200k in Sydney and £70k in London is now really worrying us. We think he may be offered 140k tops!!! Should we be reconsidering.

We also have three kids, we have no intention of buying a house only to rent but does anyone know if we have to pay for our kids on a 457 visa sponsored by this company on a two year contract. Does anyone know what and where these reasonable priced private schools are.

There seems to be so much neganegative feelings - now really nervous.

You will have to pay for your kids if you are on a 457, roughly $4000 a year each, depending on their age ... and you still have to pay that even if you send them private.

$140k is not a match for 115 grand. There is a figure that people seem to use when calculating salary conversion rates, of 2.2 So to get the same level of earnings as your 115k in the UK you would need around $250k here in Oz.

Only NSW and ACT have to pay those fees. All other states offer free education to 457 holders.

I'm confused by your figures. As it has been mentioned, if you live and work in London you need to be looking at a salary conversion of 2.2 to have a comparable existence in Sydney and Melbourne (I can't advise on other capital cities). I've also noticed that Australian employers also live in a bit of a box. They often think they are being clever by googling the fx rate when making an offer to those from the UK. Start at 2.5 and work from there. Stick to your guns.
