Anyone moved from NZ to Oz?
We've been in NZ for 8 years from the UK and we've had enough.
So as not to sound like the typical whingeing pom I won't go into details why (there are other sites to use for sounding off!) but we are thinking of heading to Oz once we gain our citizenship here (unless the back door closes before then, which may be a possibility). We dont really want to go back to the UK as the reasons why we left haven't gone away, so think we may try Oz.
Has anybody done this, and if so, how has that gone for you? Has it been a good move? How expensive was it to move? (average 3 bed house and a couple of dogs).
I'd really appreciate any feedback. I don't want to repeat the mistakes we have made here.

We now live in Melbourne. It's a bit like the lifestyle of NZ, with UK wages, lower costs overall except possible housing, and better weather then either. Also the people here are more accepting of people from different backgrounds than Kiwis in my experience.
Once you get NZ citizenship, that gives you an automatic visa for Australia, but do bear in mind it is a temporary visa, with no route to permanent residency or Australian citizenship unless you reapply from scratch under another visa program (eg the skilled one). This is what we had to do. The NZ citizen temporary visa is quite good really, it has almost all the benefits of PR but you always have in the back of your mind that you will always have temporary status here, so if you do have another route to PR it would be better.
Best move we ever made.

Double your income: possibly
Half your COL: definitely not in Sydney
Warm etc: maybe too warm?
We moved from Wellington to Sydney 3 years ago and are loving it. However, rose-tinted glasses off, COL in Sydney is as-high-as (or higher than) Wellington with rentals in CBD sky-high. Yes, our income has doubled, but 35% of our net income goes on rent. Groceries are expensive but better variety and choice. As to cost of container, we found it rather expensive at the time (even compared to our move from London to Wellington a year earlier) but there could be room for negotiation if you have the time and stamina.
