anyone moved interstate?did it work out?

hi all

we have been here in SA now for 8 months.Problem is for various reasons(long working hours, poor schooling and mainly weather!!)it just isnt working for us.

So we are debating,do we return to the uk or try somewhere else. Its not particularly the uk we miss, just cant seem to get the lifestyle we want here.

We were thinking of queensland for the better weather,we would like to be a commutable distance from a beach too.But probably need to work in brisbane.Does such a place exist??
has anyone moved interstate and found happiness. All advice/experiences appreciated.

Hya...yeah i think that maybe if things arnt quite right where you chose to go then try somewhere else before returning to the Uk. We live in the Bayside area of Brisbane, I live over looking the sea and can get into Brisbane by car or train in 30 mins. I also live less than 5 mins walk from station, we are also about 25/30 mins from the Airport but where we live is not in a flight path so you dont get any overhead planes taking off landing. Around the area we live you can pick up a 3/4 bed house from about 450 upwards, if you have it you can spend $1.9 on something so prices are in a large range. But for 500-600 you can aquire a large newish 4 bed low/high set on about a 450/500 block posibly with a pool. Good luck.

Hi Ellie,

Can't really help but wanted to wish you luck.

What do you both do for a living, maybe someone will have a better idea of where you could look :)

Hi Ellie,

When we left the UK in March 06 we headed for Adelaide. We were there just over a year when we decided, as you say, it wasnt quite the Australia we were looking for. So we moved up to Hervey Bay. 3 hours north of Brisbane. What a difference!!! Do a google search. Still afordable and has that lovely tropical feel about it!!

Thats it...absolutely..Australia is so diverse...so different-you can have the Tropics at one side and snow on the Mountain ranges in another.

I'm desperate to move to Brisbane, but so scared too. After the failure in Perth i am apprehensive about anything in OZ. The good and bad stories on here do me no favours.

Give it a try...the scariest thing was actually moving to Oz...moving interstate should be a lot less daunting....Brissy is wonderful!

If I was in your shoes then I would at least go over and have a look around - it could be just what you are looking for and if it isn't then you will have at least had a good holiday whilst your here. :)

Hi Nu-Shooz

Its a quondry. Have a go at projecting yourself six months or so into the future, or to a time when you may have returned to the UK, and when you do that, and you think you'd still be saying 'bollocks why didn't we give Brisbane a try', then why not give brisbane a try here and now, while you're still in OZ rather than regretting it later.

Hope that makes sense.

Andy

Yes it does make sense, as this is what goes through my mind on a daily basis. Just that i read on here how people are so unhappy in Brissy, it makes me think twice.
I know everyone is different, but i feel too unlucky to have any luck!!! does that make sense:unsure:

we did it moved from melbourne to perth glad we tried and didnt just go home it did cost a lot of money for removals and we drove from melbourne to perth took 2 weeks as we stopped off in places on the way up cost us a fortune paying for motels etc.. but a experience we will never forget.

go for it but i will say if you heart set on going home its set, although im in a happier place i would go home tomorrow but there isnt only me to think off.

We moved from Melbourne to Brisbane - live in the Bayside area also.... We were in Melbourne for a year and couldn't wait to leave. Best decision we've ever made and we love it here. Some places just aren't right for you ;)

We started off in Sydney - that didn't work out so we tried Brisbane.
Now happily settled here.

Good luck in your search, Lj:)
