One of the nicest places in Inner East Melbourne IMHO. If you can afford to buy a family home there, then you won't ever have an excuse to leave!
One of my fav cafe streets is Glenferrie Road, especially up near High Street.

What's wrong with your rental at the mo? The location is perfect, just across the road from the station and 20 paces to the beach!!

PS just checked out house prices in that area... :scared: :scared:

People seem to be so desperate to live there, that they rent these places - I cant believe they are allowed to rent them in the state that they are in.......
Might have to change to Caulfield instead....
Hi Dolly
I have your email and will be replying soon... Im 30 this weekend and v.busy planning festivities and such like....
This time last year you were here OMG!!! :scared:
As for the move we love it round here, but we are finding it a bit boring on a night and we would like to be closer to the city for JC work and to have a better access to the city for nights out, as cab to here is $60!!! Plus I quite fancy gettin a job in the city too and we need to be closer for the doggies so we can pop home and check them....its a nightmare though we cant seem to find anything half decent and there are always others applying that have no pets and can move in right away and offer more rent.....we have to give 28 days on this place and cant give it till we get somewhere.....its a vicious circle and there is no gardens with them, just a pokey bak yard!!!

What breed have you got?
We are interested in getting a Newfoundland. But only once we have bought our own house.
Guess we will have to travel a bit further out then, because my wife is a stikler for house standards. Trying to convince her that Mount Waverley/Ashburton are some options. Trying to stay close to the highway for work and the train line for daughters school.

Re: Anyone living in or near Malvern? Melbourne
Hi Kiwi
We have 2 lab crosses. Montu is labx with border colly and we brought her from England with us and we got Taupo here she is a golden retriever and she is so big and cute.
To be honest I wouldnt worry too much about it till you arrive here. Do you know where you will be working yet? Or have you been here before? What made you chose Malvern? Hopefully you have somewhere to stay when you arrive do you? If so then just take your time and look around. You cannot properly decide until you know where you will work and whats on offer etc....
Where we are living now is perfect if you have children. You would get a fantastic new 4 bedder with garden, near beach and station for around $300ish. We have a 3 bed town house wit 3 bathrooms for 280 per week, opposite station and on beach. Aspendale/Edithvale is very family orientated and I would defo live here if I had kids etc... Its 45 min on train to city. We do not plan to stay in Malvern/Armadale for long, only a year so we can go out and have some fun in city before we try for a family...
When we do have a family we will buy a house in this area (aspendale)as its much better to raise kids, in my opinion that is.....and you get more house for your money.
I also found that the houses around that area were all old and dark, very dark... they are victorian houses and I felt they were very eerie and not modern at all, the kitchens and bathrooms were from the stone age, I would be surprised if they worked....
Good luck with it all

Select latest Victorian property guide
Median prices
Malvern
Houses 2004 $761K; 2005 $875K = +15%, 5 year trend +12.4%
Units 2004 $295K; 2005 $329K = +11.5%, 5 year trend +9.1%
Malvern East
Houses 2004 $625K; 2005 $585K = -6.4%, 5 year trend +10.6%
Units 2004 $348K; 2005 $345K = - 0.9%, 5 year trend +9.6%
Interesting comparisons eg Prices rising in Malvern, falling in Malvern East; houses dearer in Malvern; units dearer in Malvern East. My hunch is that units are bigger in Malvern East, being further from CBD and hence higher price; units with fewer bedrooms in Malvern.
These are the figures from the latest guide which is Spring 2005, prices have generally been moving more sluggishly in Melbourne in 2006.
My guess (without looking at any properties) is that a townhouse with 3/4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms might be over $500K in Malvern but you might get one for that in Malvern East.
Ironically on the map Malvern East is actually south east of Malvern but immediately east of Caulfield (!) and seems to straddle the Monash Fwy.

Re: Anyone living in or near Malvern? Melbourne
Thanks guys
We are using a buyers agent to locate a property, but in no real rush to buy (waiting on UK£ to strengthen before bringing across any more ££).
Looking to buy for the plot rather than worry to much about the decor as plan to completely rebuild after another 3 or 5 years. As long as we get 15
Have booked ourselves in to short term apartments in South Yarra for first month - then after we will have split goals me (Job) wife (Rental)
