'If you are entitled to Family Tax Benefit, you can claim your payment through the Family Assistance Office as:
fortnightly payments; or
receive a lump sum payment after the end of the financial year; or
a combination of fortnightly payments throughout the year and a lump sum payment after the financial year; or
You can claim your Family Tax Benefit through the tax system as
a lump sum payment after the end of the financial year or;
as reduced tax instalment deductions withheld from wages paid to you or your partner'
We are in the FAO system AND we only get our payment as an annual lump sum after our returns are filed as per para 1
The key point is in the 2nd para ie if you claim through the tax system.
Those claiming through the tax system will receive the 'free money' after 30/06/2009.
As we are in the FAO system we received 4 big ones last Friday.

The tax department wont be dealing with FTB after the 07/08 tax year. For this year, 08/09 you have to claim it through centerlink, fortnightly or at end of year, after you have done your tax.

'The 2008 Federal Budget announced the removal of the option of claiming family tax benefit (FTB) payments through the tax system. From 1 July 2009 the Tax Office will not accept any FTB claims, including current and prior year claims. The FTB tax claim form 2008 will be the last FTB tax claim form. FTB must be claimed through the Family Assistance Office for the year 1 July 2008 to 30 June 2009 and future years.'
?this means there's still hope for non receipients and probably worth chasing.
Monday 22/12/09 rings a bell for ringing them

We made a claim for family assistance / child benefit at the end of November.
Read somewhere that $1000 only applies if in the system end of October.
Also deferring payments until end of tax year as I am earning full time, but OH will look for job next year. So, don't want to pay lots back, would rather get a nice surpise at end of tax year.
Anyway, checking bank account today - we got the $1000 (one child). Obviously please, but also slightly wary after reading some of the posts on here.
Guess it helps to pay for the $600 book list, $500 levy and $300 camp fees the school wants just before Christmas (not to mention uniform cost!)
WooHoo - just noticed, my 100'th post

I was just on the website and it states this:
"New customers granted after 5 December 2008 who are eligible will be paid when their claim is granted."
I wonder if that applies? We could sure use it!
