Re: anyone?
New Zealand is to Australia what Samoa is to New Zealand. Australia is so developed and westernised compared to New Zealand and certainly where we live here people are very welcoming of people from other countries, jobs are offered more on your ability than your nationality. In New Zealand as soon as people discovered I was English they had to say something bad about England.
I learned to hate New Zealand with a passion - we had no jobs, no money and no future and nobody would give us a go. The lifestyle could be great but if you have no money you can't afford any of the lifestyle. My New Zealand wife has no desire to ever settle there again.
In Australia we have found the best combination of the New Zealand lifestyle and Westernised economy and work opportunities.
I understand more New Zealanders than ever are crossing the Tasman.

Yes, there's a lot of us on here who have done that.

Re: anyone moved from New Zealand to OZ?
Hi, we've done it both ways. I am a Kiwi and OH is English. He moved out to NZ with me then after 5 years we moved across to Melbourne for 13 years. Been back in Christchurch for 2 years and now contemplating moving back across again (cos moving back just before a major earthquake really sucks).
My main motivators for going back to Oz now are, obviously, the earthquake, but also the better job opportunities - I can get paid at least twice as much over there. Money isn't everything, but having more of it give us more opportunities and provides better for our kids. We came back to NZ for family reasons, only to realise I really don't see any more of my family here than I did over there.
Whereabouts are you thinking of going?

My wife's brother and his family have been from NZ to Australia 4 times in the last eighteen months, once they even went to Victoria, and yet they have never come to see us. But if we're in NZ and don't visit them, tongues start wagging......

We've never been short of money in either country so for us it wasn't about the money, although the bank balance did improve for moving here that wasn't our reason for coming over to Queensland by a long shot.
The standard of living is higher here, there's more variety, more choice, better working conditions and all that stuff but our prime reason was because Australia has a future and we wanted our children to have one too, there was nothing for them in NZ.

If you're seriously thinking about coming over take your time choosing a good employer in an area you want to live in and with good schools.
There are differences with New Zealand and they will take some getting used to but they'll nothing like as great as the adjustments you made when you moved from the UK to NZ.
I think you'd fit in really well anywhere from Coomera down to Tweed - quiet enough in the 'burbs to have a good quality of life but close enough to Brisbane and the Gold Coast to enjoy the night life, activities and beaches.
Steve'o lives in a good location, well placed to have the best of all of it.

Be aware that women here don't always apply make up, outdoor clothing or shoes before they go shopping.

My daughter seems to wear Mac without any problems and wouldn't dare be seen in public without her face on, I should ask her for a few tips.
