Strange seeing this thread as me and the wife have just changed our minds about moving to Perth when we immagrate and decided on Adelaide instead. Looking on an estate agent website we can get what we want for less money than in Perth, although we will have to get a small mortgage it looks like it'll be worth it. Although neither of us have been to Australia (yes we're just going to go for it) Adelaide seem more laid back which is what we want.

I have being using this forum for a considerable time now. Over that period of time, I have noticed how Perth always, 'got the vote' so to speak!

Something I have noticed of late, is how many threads are popping up, asking the question, 'so & so or Perth'? Most people cite their reasons as house prices, isolation etc.........

One thing I do find fascinating, is how, for example, Adelaide and Hobart never got a sniff............all of a sudden, there are posts springing up left right and centre, asking questions about them!

Just wondered..........................

We went over to Adelaide with work last year and I thought it was a really nice city. Much more in terms of restaurants and cafe/street culture than Perth. Property prices are way down on Perth and the city centre shops are much better. Everything feels more compact and european (as opposed to the US-feel over here) But the fact that it was a work trip says it all really. Because of the boom, the jobs are here in Perth. We'll rent here at a fraction of the cost of buying and enjoy the good times. If I was looking to settle full-time it would probably be Melbourne, followed by Adealide.

Oh good. We're a family of five me and the wife and our kids eldest is 7 then 5 and the newbie 8 months. I've almost completed my TRA to send off so as you probably know we're still a long way off yet from getting on that plane but theres lots I want know. The small things really like the price of food or a weeks shopping, gas and electric bills, water rates, is there anything like council tax and if so are there different bands, are the roads cycle freindly as I would probably have to ride to work unless I learn before I go or quickly when i'm over there. What sort of schools are there and how do you go about enroling your children. Are there any areas of Adelaide to avoid when looking for a house. Hope i'm not asking to much but when you look on websites they don't really tell you EVERYTHING that you might want to know.

cheers Richard

Well we arrived in Adelaide a week ago and we LOVE IT!!!

Never been to Perth and so cant compare whats good and whats not, but Adelaide offers us everything we are looking for and coming back having been here for 6 weeks last summer just makes us feel like we have come home!!

A lot of threads seem to slag off Adelaide, but I think most people have never even been just take other peoples opinions on other threads and make them their own without their own experiences!!!

So I say to those people, we dont want you in Adelaide ANYWAY!!!! :p
