Default Anyone else feel like this?

I'll get my arse kicked by the good guys for this one.

Been back for approx 4 years after approx 7 years in the UK. We have a perfect life, large home, rental home, pool, delightful pool furniture, a european dishwasher big gas guzzling cars and so on

We live minutes to the beach, shops, more parks than the dog can pee in, we bbq weekly and take up every opportunity to get cheap flights to other parts of OZ, but after 4 years the entire family are BORED out of our brains. Its all a bit bland and repetative, am I the only one on here who finds our australian lifestyle a bit dull?

Shoot me but someone had to say it.

You won't be the only one to feel like that, as all of us are different .

I am sure there will be many people in all countries of the world who feel exactly the same. There will also be others in those same countries who have a full and enjoyable life.

I have been bored in both these countries, UK & OZ, but I'm OK were I am now. Sometimes we just have to up sticks and try something different.

I really don't know. Do you need spiritual enrichment? Is it too hot in Queensland? Do you have a European front loading washing machine?? Sorry, just kidding cos you mentioned the dishwasher....

Are you able to pinpoint what is missing from your lives? Maybe you need to have a family brainstorm session - where you all can come up with something you miss and then discuss & take action.

I've been here too short to be in the same situation as you and love sports too much to find the lifestyle here dull - but it must be a terrible thing to be bored all the time.

Not at all. It's only been 6 months plus this time round, and I've had those thoughts. Not in all aspects as there is plenty of stuff still to be experienced but certainly on a day 2 day level.

Q. Did you get those feelings in the UK?

I think it was RichS who wrote about itchy feet a while back. Maybe a change of scenery is needed?

Jad and Rich.......we have not been here long but must admit that we are also getting bored! We realise that we still have lots of things to visit and see yet, but when we have done all that we are starting to think "what next"

We have found that it is lack of variety that is boring us...same old bbq's,going to peoples houses, them coming to us etc. In the UK we had pubs, variety of friends, relatives - it just seemed that there was much more to do!! We have got hobbies, activities etc but here there isn't anything new to do , for us anyway.

Although after over a year of planning and organising madly to get out here things are slower now, so that may be why. Just need to settle down a bit! Need to find another project to work on....it's that itchy feet thing again! I think that once you've done something as exciting as emigrating you start to crave more exciting things than you used to. Does that make sense??

Maybe a bit of extreme sports might help....anyone for a bungy jump!??

It seems to me that some people who emigrate to OZ expect it to be one big holiday and soon get fed up when the holiday feeling has gone, a lot of holiday destinations are great for two weeks but living there day after day would be a drag, learn to entertain yourselves instead of waiting for the country you live in to come up with the next adventure.
Youve tried England and Australia maybe you should try Disneyland next ????

A blunt axe, tough mallee roots and a dinner to cook tends to sharpen the mind.

I know - pity the poor beggar won't appreciate my considered suggestion - will keep looking in all the wrong places - will never know the deep satisfaction of having triumphed over nature's must obstinate firewood, foraged in the great outdoors, worked out a whole week's frustrations, got a months worth of flab busting gym exercise for free, cooked the dinner, heated the house and the water, and beat the taxman to boot.

For me it's lacking in something. Lacking culture, lacking diversity, lacking grit, lacking oomph . It's really hard to put into words. I don't regret coming here, but if I turned back the clock and knew what I knew today - no way would I come here.. I would have gone to China instead ( had a few options to which country to go to next)

I'm also taking the risk of being shot. And it's not wanting Disney land before anyone says that again. I've been too long an expat to have rose tinted glasses on about any country.I came here in the first place to get back to "normality"... trouble is Aus Normality is too bland... it's lacking something.

The life you describe is bl**dy boring. Have you thought of upping roots and changing your career if you want to stay in your country.. what about going bush? Helping some of the Aborigine communities?

Nothing bores me more than conventionally. blah and blah. Personally I can't wait to get out of here, it's doing my head in. We've been planning our escape for ages now ..lol( but one thing leads to another.. too much responsibilities to just up and leave just like that... but I swear I'm going to crack aye, and just take off with a holdall on the spur of the moment - b*gger to everything) .

Anyway good luck

cheers

P.s this is not an attack on Australia, I know you are an Australia, and you must have some love for your country - it's an attack on most of the population who are too conventional , too picket fence, bbquey , plasticy wine glassy picknicy type for me. I'm at my happiest when I b*gger off from that type of person.. but there's only so far you can go out to sea before you run out of fuel.

Duck!

There is a little something in your post that hints to me that Australia may not be the country for you ?

Exactly, its just so repetitive, we are doing now what we did back in year 1 when it seemed quite interesting after several years away, now its really repeating the same social cycles over and over again. What is worrying is in another 4 years the possiblilties would still be the same, there does seem to be so much less choice of everything since living abroad, its really limiting.

We all do a sport, all the adults have jobs, we dine out weekly, we have probably 6 families we socialise with, plus lots of workmate type banter. But nothing is going to change, the choices each week will be the same. Its just everyone does the same things over and over again, McMercer, I think, said the BBQ circuit gets boring, we are now finding the same thing. We sat here this weekend just thinking I cant do this same stuff every week for another 10 years :scared: I want some variety. You cant really say it to aussie mates it comes accross as boasting what you did overseas.

Were already dreading Christmas, it so lacks the atmosphere we had for several years, the looong school holidays to fill, I probably sound really ungrateful but I think we got spoilt living in the UK, spoilt for choice now we just cant settle again, despite chucking every ounce of effort into building our great aussie dream :scared: I think thats what bothers me most, its like we are ungrateful immature brats or something, I've been reading this for 4 months I think to prove we are mad for wanting to leave Australia, as the friend who introduced us to the site said, that website would put anyone off the UK, but it hasnt! because I know what people complain about happens here too.

BTW its great this thread has turned into a discussion and a few jokes rather than anyone doing their nut about what I said.

you think I'm bad.. as I've mentioned in the past hubby is not stepping near a polling station (I still haven't decided) , and is not going to pay a fine either if he's caught. He is now actually thinking of sending them his Aus citizenship certificate .. to the words of go and get ***** and stick your citizenship where the sun don't shine ..

That's why I love him - aww bless 'im ( I'm keeping mine though! ..I don't believe in burning bridges) .. He nearly had a following of comrades..lol - Funny thing the people who agreed with him were a few eastern Europeans and a few Asians .. all saying Bl88dy communist country- came here to escape that!

( by the way we are both respectable people, we are not loons .. though I think we may be hoons ..lol)

Cheers
