Default Anyone built a house???

Just wondering if you can do the extra electrics as a back hander or do they need to be done through the builder

Would we....well hubby.... be able to fit ceilng fans himself or does that need to be done by a liscenced electrician

Beginning to wish we'd never started

Thanks

Installation must be done and signed off by a licenced Electrical Contractor.

You could try asking the electrician if he wouldnt mind fitting them however not to sure if your builder would be to happy! Why dont you wait till the house is finished and then fit the ceiling fans yourself? Once the house is signed off, you can do what you like to it.

Yes, but if anything were to go wrong with the electrics the company who built the house would no longer be liable. Even if it's nothing to do with the fans.

Also it will invalidate any insurance on the property.

We got a letter from the electrical contractors asking if we wanted anything else doing whilst they were there.

Hiya,

leave it to the sparkies, the builders will have a hissy fit, your bsa wont be worth anything, if it burns down collapses or is hit by haileys comet, your old fella will get the blame...

This is what i did...

At framing stage, i broked in, and fitted some timber supports central in the ceiling, and made the obligatory electricians marks on the floor to denote THAT IS EXACTLY where i want light installing.
I let them install their crappy fluoros, then got my mate ( hes a spark ) and I , we fitted new ceiling fans throughout.. AFTER handover !!

Good Luck Ste

Dont forget you will need to route separate wiring to control fan and combined light ! Perhaps ask the electrician to run this for you, and buy him a carton. That way when you change the facia of the switch, and remove light fitting, everything is good to go !!!!
