Hi

watch out for Noisey Miners in Adelaide too!

About the size of a Blackbird, but grey with a yellow flash beside their eyes.

They are particularly drawn to bright coloured eyes!

gd :)

I also got attacked about a month ago by a magpie in Sale, Victoria.
I was returning from a gold prospecting trip near Dargo and stopped there for a break on the way home.
I walked over the road to the public toilets and felt a "slap" on my head. it was quite windy and I looked round to see a black thing in the sky. I initially thought it was litter, then I saw it turning round and coming in for another dive bomb attack! I started to run across the field towards the public toilets and in an effort to dodge the dive bomber I slipped and landed on my shoulder, pulling a muscle. It took weeks for the pain to go.
Apparently they are a little "over protective" of their nests in the spring. I guess its something we'll just have to put up with. :o

I got attacked by a magpie a few weeks ago as I cycled up the Yarra Trail in Melbourne. The thing hit me on the rim of my sunglasses, aiming for the eyes, presumably. I was so surprised I didn't have time to get scared.

Luckily, just a couple of days before that I read all about swooping birds on the Bicycle Victoria website (I'm sure this info can be found on dozens other websites) and slowed down to a crawl after the first attack. The magpie did swoop down for a couple more times, but didn't get close enough to hit - just sort of hovered nearby.

Lots of birds swoop in the nesting season, apparently, not just magpies, but also magpie larks and some other birds which I can't for the life of me remember :).
