Any Pom Professionals coming over
Just curious but it seems that the majority of posters on here are tradespeople
Any professionals (quasi or otherwise) ?

Sounds like they need more tradespeople though - or at least more decent plumbers!

We're another set of "professionals" hoping to come over - an ecologist and electronic engineer. We've been in the processing queue now for 2.5 months, so only another year or so to go......
What is it you do???

Yes me. I am a professional housewife (very underated and underpaid) and my husband is IT/Telecommunications Specialist and is currently taking an Accounting Course with a view to doing a degree. However, he would probably have more chance of a job if he had a trade!!

The Professionals
Hi
We are "professionals". I'm going to be studying and doing a bit of part-time lecturing at the University of Queensland and my boyfriend is a pre-sales consultant (software). It does seem that the jobs available are either for really serious programmers / developers or tradesmen.
I'm sure we'll find something though, if not we'll have to be bartenders!
Cheers
Rach
Arriving in Brisbane 29th September!

Exactly - its a question for me too of take whatever I can get to start with! I don't think there is any chance of me getting the same job out there, but I'm willing to adapt and do whatever I'm offered!!

I understood that a professional was required by law to have a particular qualification to practice their occupation e.g. doctor, dentist, nurse, etc/, lawyer, accountant, teacher, airline pilot . It seems to me that anyone who doesn't "get their hands dirty", and even some who do, now like to call themselves "professionals".

Professional
I think that the fact people are putting the word "professional" in quotes or calling it "quasi professional" shows that they are not really sure if they are or not!
I don't think its that they "like to call themselves professionals", just that some people aren't sure where their skills fit if they don't have trade or a job with a very firm, recognisable identity like Doctor or Architect.
