What's its big assests over its competitors? There was a youtube flick and all it was doing was zooming in and out and isolating pumps and stuff. Does Bentley still have a market in this space? What about autodesk? |

What about autodesk? Re drafting roles they are few and far between at the mo. Many large projects have finished or are about to with not much in the near future lined up. It's really a case of who you know now - a lot of guys are now looking overseas with the Middle East and UK looking the best places. It's been pretty shite for the last year with no let up in sight. For work in Perth try Amec and Forge they're the only places with lots on from Roy Hill. The others are all getting rid of people right now. |

Bentley still do with Autoplant, other than that PDMS is gaining ground as the primary plant design package over PDS. Intergraph released Smartplant which was going to change everything but it's too hard to get going for projects and costs too much.

What about autodesk? I'm learning it in order to up-skill. I'm bored of mining and want to move into O&G (I'm also doing a dual MBA/MSc in Energy as well). It will mean me taking a step backwards (which I have never done before) but will be worth it in the long run. There are currently roles available for it in Perth right now, and in the UK there is shitloads of PDMS work - paying good candy too |

I think the rates now for PDMS designers in O&G and nuclear in the UK are now higher than Australia.... |
