Default Any advice you can give

Myself and my family are about to start our application to move to NZ.I'm looking at everything right now.Jobs, areas, house prices you name it.I was just wondering where to look for a house if I was to work in Auckland. We want something rural but not too far from the City.I've only chosen Auckland because I presume that's where I'll get work.I'm a network Engineer. If this is not true any suggestions would be helpful.

Hi there Matt

My husband is currently employed as a network engineer and is qualified to CCIE level, but we are veryhesitant about moving as the whole IT world is very dead at the mo. We were hoping to move to Oz, but have considered NZ. We realised the majority of jobs are in Sydney, then Melbourne, then Brisbane.

Sorry about that.

My partner and I were just discussing this yesterday. We could've saved so much time if we had known where to live when we first came to Auckland! I spent ages looking around different places and none seemed right and in the end we 'found' the North Shore, which is a great place for many reasons. If you live in the Takapuna/Belmont/Devonport area you can get the ferry to the city centre which takes 15 mins. Some people drive over the bridge or get a bus but don't be fooled thinking there's no commuter traffic here because there is!

Secondly, being a peninsular there is access to plenty of beaches within a short walk, and they are nice long sandy beaches with beautiful views.

Thirdly, the standard of accommodation in this area is good; prices are higher than other parts of Auckland because of the location, but I think its worth paying that bit more and if you come with pounds with plans to buy, you'll probably think it's a bargain compared to home.

If you like sport there are all kinds of clubs to join and if you like a bit of socialising, there are a wide variety of cafes, bars and restaurants.
