Default Another question from a newbie! Not so Daft!

I am going to rent a car from these guys for three weeks next year! Or is it better to hire a car from a company this side of the pond?

http://www.eastcoastcarrentals.com.au/index.htm

They seem reasonable, Sat Nav etc? Any experiences, love you to share them with me!

But, this is the thing, what does this mean, do i need it, should i worry?

LRW - Is it some kind of insurance Liability Damage Waiver?

WEB LRW PACKAGE $3000 to $200 (SEDANS). 14+ day $8.80

WEB LRW PACKAGE $3500 to $500 (TARAGOS) 7+ days $16.50

Cheers Fork

You can limited damage, the LRW lowers the liability excess for a fee, i.e. the excess goes from 3000 to 200.

Expensive long term, but then you only pay 200 instead of 3000 if you wreck it.

Also check about tyre damage, roof damage , etc as it may be different to policies that you are used to.

FAQ has most details

http://www.eastcoastcarrentals.com.au/FAQ.htm

Charges can be higher at the airport, and you can pick up specials from the big names, but it all depends on what kind of vehicle you want etc, but looking at their prices, they appear pretty cheap. Another small name is http://www.abel.com.au/

We used them and were really pleased with them and their service. Others on here have also used them. Some had good experiences and some had bad. Luck of the draw, as with everything. I'd use them again no problem.

Most of the people that have come to stay with us have rented via No Birds. Cheap and very good service.

We used Able and they were fine. Saw you got a quote for a Tarago - we hired one of those and it was a great size car, took all the bags and loads of space to spare, comfortable to drive and park too.

Thanks for all of the replies, if you could pm me or post the details of the UK company offering this collision damage waiver service here in the UK, it may be well worth spending the £60.00 for a year;

As 21 days at $8.80 = $185.00 = £80.00, and that is for the smallest car?

Is it a good idea to get a taxi from the airport when you first arrive? If so how much would it cost from the airport to say Scarborough, then would they drop the car off at your rental house the next morning? Its just the car has Sat Nav, so would this be advisable to use on first arrival? How far is the Airport to Scarborough?

www.vroomvroomvroom.com.au - we've had some absolutely brilliant deals from this place, particularly good if you are booking last minute too.

We were one of the ones who had a bad experience, we booked a car long term when we arrived and then bought one earlier than we had planned. Rather than keep the rental, as it was still the xmas hols I thought I would check whether we get a refund if we returned. The guy told me they didnt normally give refunds, so i said no probs, we'd keep the car until it was due, he then told me to hold on for a moment, put me on hold and then came back and said they could take it back and quoted me how much money we would be refunded.

Long story short, we returned the car, no monies credited back to credit card, and when I chased with the company they denied all knowledge of agreeing to the refund. After arguing on the phone for a very long time, they offered me a credit of a smaller amount against another rental, needless to say I told them to stick it... but as Penny says, you get good and bad experiences everywhere, just sucks if you are the unlucky ones!
