Hi, sorry to ask a silly question which may have been asked before. What band of mobile is needed for Aus? Will both tri and quad band phones work?

Yes, make sure it's unlocked before you leave the UK (either by your provider or at a local mobile accessory shop (they usually do it for a tenner), don't bother with the codes you can find on the internet as they rarely work for newer phones.

Hello
Vodafone seem to have some great offers as the moment - you can buy a nokia phone for $65 and they will throw in $130 worth of calls for free.
Another popular plan as long as you have a vodafone sim (if not you can buy one for $10) is their $49 capped rate. You pay $49 and they give you $300 dollars worth of calls, the only catch is that you have to use it all up within the month or you lose any remaining balance. If you are just coming over, then I imagine you will be using the phone very heavily so its great value, no contract or fuss and you can be using the phone within 10mins of walking into the shop

We're about to send a K800i to my step son which is locked onto Orange. We were on a tight schedule as a friend is in the UK but leaving on Tuesday, guess we've got more time now .. we'll post it when we've unlocked it.

Hello
Its cheaper to get it unlocked in the uk as there is a lot more competition which forces the price down. If not, then there are places over here, but they charge a lot more!

Absolutely - cheaper in UK. There is usually a "little man" in the market who can do it for you easily.

If you buy a phone from/on 'O2' then they are always unlocked.
(The four phones I've had from them were anyway)

Ah! Does this mean that there isn't anywhere in Australia where you can unblock phones?
