Hi
Can someone please tell me the standard amount of days you get as vacation/annual leave?
We are deciding between moving to Oz and Canada! It think the annual leave plays a part and Canada's standard is 10 days!!! We are used 20/25 days here.
Also how many days of public/bank holidays do you get there? thanks!!

You tend to have to accrue your holiday before you take it. Ian's holiday accrues at about 2 hours per week worked or something similar. It can be a bit draining when you first arrive

One thing that is much better over here is that you seem able to roll holiday over into the following year or draw down from holiday not yet earned more easily than I ever could in the UK.

Often my manager doesn't bother to even count the sickies.
We pretty much have flexi-time; only need to account for 37 hours a week, it may not necessarily be billable or even revenue-earning.
I don't mind acruing, its the way it should work - otherwise you'd be taking holiday and then buggering off.

the standard is 4 weeks (20 working days) however depending on your work place agreement you may have an additional 4-6 days for various personal leave and 10 working days of sick leave. Some companies will negotiate extra leave versus salary. My friend gets 40 working days a year with Energex however they reduce his take-home pay accordingly.
I hope this helps

Recently imposed is a max 10 days sick/carers leave, with only 3 allowed without a doctor's certificate.
I came unstuck with this last week, having taken a 4th day without proof.
Actually they stuffed up, it was actually my third day, but anyway.
I was called in to the boss' office and given a written warning. Yes I know the rules yadda yadda, but what gets me is I'm a professional person working in a senior role but I get treated like a lackey.
My sick leave absence has been all carers leave for the OH around her pregnancy. I get no paternity leave. When I've taken those days off I still work from home.
Anyway rant over. Gis a job mate.

Good point. I start a new job in 4 weeks time. On top of 20 days holiday, you get a standard 10 sick days and if you don't use them they become available holiday. There are also 3 "family" days, 3 "parent days" plus bereavement leaves etc etc. After 10 years service (I have not worked at the same company for 6 years so far though) you get 13 weeks long-service leave too.

Gedge, if you are a 'professional' and they treat you like that its a 'sick' company. I'd be quite suspicious almost!

You tend to get the unprofessionals taking the mick, and then there's the culture that sick leave should be holiday if you don't use it for sickies. Ruined it for the rest of us.
I'm sure the dept. boss could handle it differently if he wanted to keep his best staff.
