I am under no such illusions and certainly did not
expect to be "liked and welcomed as a Pom" - any more than I expected
all Aussies to be fair dinkum blokes that I would want as mates. I also
did not expect to be disliked and made to feel unwelcome as a Pom
either. Surprise surprise - not having those illusions turned out to be
correct. Nobody has welcomed me "as a Pom" and nobdy has hated me for
being a Pom.

you as one of their own???
What a bizarre idea. If that was
your attitude when you were here then I am not surprised you did not
like it much - I expect many Aussies laughed at you for being such an
arrogant tosser.

than well paid and rather scarce) jobs??
I do not view myself
as different to the other immos with the exception that I have the
advantage of speaking English as first language. I find jobs in my
field are reasonably well paid (better standard of living than in the UK
- but then I was in the expensive South East and now I am in less
expensive Qld) and have not noticed any great scarcity of opportunities
(but then I am not looking for a job at the moment).

you seriously write that Oz is not an inward looking backwater with in
ingrained suspision of anything forgein, especially pom? How often do
you get international news which does not have "sport" in the opening
sentence?
Not sure of the Aussie view - but I have certainly
not noticed a suspicion of all things foreign. As for international
news - some of the TV news here is dire - but it is dire for the local
news too. Yes, there is more emphasis on sport (I never remember
getting the AFL or the NRL results in the UK - but here they do report
the English soccer scores) but there is also coverage of other news. As
for international - the big difference is that the international news
here focuses more on the news from countries that are relevant to
Australia - so the UK and Europe tend to be lower on the list than the
US and Asia/Far East.
Hey - what a surprise - it is different to the UK
- it is a different country.

Cheers,
