Plumbers in the UK can now join JIB for their skills - lots of pretty coloured ones for different stages of qualifications - general plumber, advanced craft plumber, apprentice plumber, gas qualifications also. This card assisted with the TRA no end!!

I know not relevant to the US plumber but depending on where he is settling will need to contact relevant licencing board.

Good luck!

Paula

But the TRA is worthless in AU

As a plumber dont need the TRA once you land - only for visa purposes.

Then it is over the the state licencing boards - good luck!

From the different information I have read for various states, it looks like WA is the more approachable/sensible one (only my opinion and interpretation - not fact).

Besides - OH has a great looking CV portfolio now thanks to the TRA nightmare, and the Gold JIB card does look good!

Never mind - plumbers never go hungry!

What a small world, I was JIB Plumber of the Year as well about 20 years ago, so is your flash Gold card going to actually help at all and is it a English or Scottish version. I have been toying with the notion of trying to get my JIB qualifications changed over to the Scottish JIB if it is possible !!!!!!!.
Why did you have a nightmare with the TRA ??????

Oh the joys of bureaucracy it appears an Scottish plumber can be graded in England but not vise versa.....but I have the Chairman of the English JIB on the case....watch this space.

Plumbers never go hungry  You may well revise that statement once you're over here and trying to make ends meet :)

Mog - please do keep me posted about the JIB situation, would be cool if you could get that one sorted out!! either PM me or email: please use pm facility - don't put email addresses on the forum
Didnt have a nightmare with the TRA themselves, it was finding all OH's previous employers going back to when he was 17!! He has had two stints being self employed so had to get sh*t loads of evidence for those two times, several employers gone bust/disappeared. TRA loved all the paperwork and sent a speedy YES reply.

OH NO! Dont say that - I am being mega mega mega positive about everything, will worry about the shit hitting the fan when it happens.

I have already migrated twice in my life and I must admit it doesnt frighten me all that much, however OH is a little more cautious - good job he doesnt do computers!

I am more than capable of getting of my arse and finding paying work too! I can cook, clean, iron, drive, type (90 words per minute), shorthand, firemarshal, all general office duties, use a till, stack shelves, restaurant kitchen work (un-skilled), first entry ledger accounts, babysit ANYONE got a job for me end of the year?

I wish you all the best in your search.

So forgive me for being stupid, but in my defence i am only a plumber and an English one at that.
Will a JIB card get me a licence in NSW or do I have to try to convince the SNIJIB im worthy of a card to help me get a licence..or do I chuck it all in and become a postman instead???

Many thanks

I'm trying to get my English JIB Grading card transfered to the Scottish & Northern Ireland JIB card at the moment as this is the only qualification recognised in Aus and will get you a Temp License.

The skills you possess will be in much greater demand than that of a foreign plumber with no relevant experience or qualifications. I've really enjoyed learning how to cook whilst gaining my licences and doing the training courses, infact given the option, preparing food would be my preference over plumbing now.
Amazing how theropeutic kneeding doe can be at times of stress.
Reminds me of how prisoners find skills they didn't know they possessed. Perhaps your OH will be able to get intouch with his hiddenself and sow up mailbags or do a law degree or join the young mums on the estate for coffee whilst you are hard at work :D

Dont be giving him ideas! :D

We are of a mind to suck it and see when we land - but I do like to overplan things sometimes so I do need to be snapped out of it occassionally.

We cant wait to get there! It cant be any worse than North Shields!

Can't comment as I don't have any first hand experience of North Sheilds.
Does NS have palm trees and sand so clean it sweaks when you walk on it and fish like on finding nemo and people who don't care where you are from and birds that look like they're hand painted and a football team who doesn't embarass you and the kids have surfing lessons at school and pick bananas from your own garden?
The central heating engineer may not be king here but there are other things to be filling your time with if the money issue can be resolved :D

stop it! you've got me drooling! cant wait to get there as it is!

I have had a tentative job offer in Perth already and OH got a call from a HR department - not sure who as it was a missed call and waiting for them to call back.

Where abouts have you and yours settled? You sound like someone fun for us to have pints with when/if we land! Take care

Paula
