I was at a meeting at school recently and this horrible in your face woman turned up and took over by telling us we all had to sign her petition to keep books being bought by domestic publishers. I jumped on her (nearly literally) and told her that by doing that she may be saving someone's job but that she was actually attempting to stop the general public from reading because of the ridiculous cost of books here.
She tried to argue and shoved the petition under my nose. I managed to stop myself from ripping the thing up and throwing it in her face

In the meantime, have your books delivered from Book Depository online - free international p & p. Books are often a little more expensive than Amazon, but overall cheaper when you factor in the free p & p. Haven't ever waited more than 7 days for books to arrive from them either
It is annoying waiting several weeks for Amazon - I can never really justify the fast delivery option. So I choose to wait - and by the time it arrives I have forgotten about it and it's like an unexpected present..
