Alternatives to Containers???
Just had a bit of a shock trawling through past posts to find a container seems to be in the region of £3K plus.
Can anyone suggest a more cost effective way of shipping stuff as we don't need a whole container?
We haven't got much stuff, probably no more than 10 boxes (say about the size of a VDU box - 2ft square ish). It's mainly things like books, sports equipement, IT stuff, possibley some household items etc.
It's not worth us spending that amount of money on shipping, but I can't think how else to get this stuff out to Sydney!

You can use excessbaggage.com (i think thats right - search the forum it'll pop up).
Or you can phone round some "freight forwarders" from yellow pages - say "Ive got n boxes" to ship to Sydney . I bet that'll be the cheapest. If you deliver them to the port , and collect them from sydney freight-forwarders that'll be cheaper.
Its not hard - honestly we did our own container. You get a freight forwarder in UK, he has a 'partner' in Sydney to hand over to. When you get here you ring the partner in Sydney and talk to them , you sort it all out between you in terms of getting it through customs and Aqis ( theyll do all this ) and tell you when and where to pick it up... then you ring some little man with van or removal co to pick it up and it turns up in your house.

There is another company called Seven Seas that ship boxes or you can call one of the bigger companies. They also ship boxes but don't know how they compare on prices with somebody like Seven Seas or Excess Baggage.

Most of the shipping companies will deal with part-loads, just ring them and tell them approx how much you have. Then they will put your stuff in a shared container.
