I'm guessing that mail delivery in Oz is just Monday to Friday then?

guessed correctly :D

Had several bits of registered post a bit ago that I always had to collect - just put it down to not hearing our excuse for a doorbell, now it seems it could be because he was lazy

You need to speak to his employer. Independent contractor or not, he needs to shape up.

Ours are independent contractors too. I've even spoken to them to see how it works. Basically a retired couple that get paid to collect the letters from the PO and deliver it to the houses in the region.

You can add the bin men to the list. Took me nearly 2 months to figure out why they wern't taking my trash. First had the bins on the wrong side of the road (bear in mind I'm rural and thats the only bin to collect!) Then when I susses out it was the wrong side they kept kicking them over and not emptying them. I had to ambush them finally to talk to them and see what the problem was. I had the bin facing the wrong way!

errr I know you're rural mate but isn't there anyone else anywhere around in neighbouring farms you could have asked? Were the natives that unfriendly that no-one could advise you for 2 months?

That’s how I found out it was the wrong side of the road. I was out on the boat one day and a neighbour about 3k up the river hailed me over. His exact words were: I see your having trouble getting your bins emptied. You know why don't you. There on the wrong side of the road.

I should have been thankful that he told me and I was to his face, but on the way back I was fuming as why the F didn't he or anyone else tell me before then. I find here that everything is on a need to know basis. No one volunteers information and you only get the answers if you ask very specific questions.

Sorry but I cant understand why you would wait 2 months. What was stopping you from ringing your local council and asking a "very specific" question ie Why arent my garbage bins being emptied ?

Why, because I didn't want to look stupid. I probably ended up looking stupid anyway but hey ho. We were new here and we were even on taliking terms with most of the neighbours but I don't like asking and they obviously don't like telling.

The point isn't my stupid male inability to ask directions but the fact that the bin men couldn't be arsed to either get out the cab and get the bins OR better still leave a note to let me know. NOT get out the cab and kick the bins over.

All the bins I see have clear instructions on which way the bin is to face to the road. No wonder he is a winging pom cos he waits 2 months so he can winge.

Australia Pooo-st are crap. Nothing but problems with them, especially their 'franchised' post offices, where the staff (who cant even speak English well) are useless!

A postie leaves a card to pick up a parcel. I go to the Post office to retrieve the parcel. Post office bloke says no parcel is there? What do I do? Nobody knows what happened to it.

The weekend passes and i pester them again. I get another card to collect 2 new parcels. I go to the post office again, and 'suddenly' my 1st parcel was there!! It was there all along but the non English speaking bloke couldnt be bothered to check properly! Now thats "service"!!
