The Malaysian Airlines website has some good detail regarding the seats - also shows the layout and seat pitch in economy at 34" which is pretty good, though nothing compared against the 76" in First Class. B******S!

Why do they have to give 1st class so much room, if they gave them a bit less then economy could have a few extra inches.....

But it is on:

http://www.airlinequality.com/ click on Seat Pitch to go to:

http://www.airlinequality.com/Product/seat_intro.htm then click on Asia for Malaysian.

Other sites give you seating maps for all aircraft with good, bad, average etc ratings by row number and seat. Very handy at check-in to request specific seats (and reject unsuitable ones allocated).

eg on home page click on the best seat at the bottom then Malaysian and:

MALAYSIA AIRLINES

Economy Class - Boeing 777

Avoid row 20 - no window at seat 20A and 20K. Best seats 12A/C and 12J/K (bulkhead seats). EWR-KUL. Best seats in economy are 29 A/C (exit row seats). You are near galley, but enormous legroom makes it worthwhile.

Business Class - Airbus 330-300

At all cost, AVOID seat 9A as there is no window there.

Business Class - Boeing 777

Row 5 seat J or K . Best recline and best legroom. Boeing 747-400 Upper deck exit row 10A/C/H/K. H/K slightly better than A/C. A/C is set further forward, restricting view out window. Boeing 777-200 - Row 4 A/C or H/J Bulkhead row with cutout for extra legroom. Row 9 (again, A/C/H/J) is similar.

Economy Class - Boeing 747-400

26ABC, 48ABC/HJK are all bulkhead seats - so plenty of legroom. Row 38 although being bulkhead is by a cluster of toilets.

Possibly something to do with the exorbitant cost of a 1st Class ticket. They must feel guilty at charging people 10 times the economy fare to sit nearer the front of the plane so compensate them by giving them free champagne, a big tv screen and loads of leg room!

So they pay shed loads of money to get bigger seats and pitch and to ensure they will definitely die in a crash whilst we sit cramped in the back with slightly better odds. Hey ho!

Just to change tack slightly, Melbourne is the only airport in Australia which currently will be able to land the Airbus A380 (just finished widening the runways in preparation for the C'Wealth Games). The plane will hold nearly 200 more passengers but anything mentioned yet about pitch in economy? The airlines could opt to use the extra space for swimming pools, tennis courts, lounges etc but somehow I think most of them will try to squeeze as many passengers in as possible. If it is the same/similar pitch as at present that really will be cattle class!

Or when you're leaving and they MAKE you go all the way to the front exit thereby having to walk through 1st Class and look on in awe at the leather armchairs, big screens etc. - deserted cos the priviledged (sp?) few in 1st/business have already long gone before they let the riff-raff off!
