Default Air Guns ?????

Can anyone tell me whether you can ship Air Guns to OZ. My husband insists that he wants to take his with him. I reckon his planning on shooting me with it if it all goes pearshaped !! :scared: :scared:

thanks for the reminder. I used to be a good shot but now couldn't hit a cow's arse in a crush!

an old friend/riding companion of mine has had mine down on her farm in Glos for about 5 years. Better go and get it back!!

I've never had a garden am am looking forward to shooting on my own property - difficult shooting in the UK!! 10 metres from a main road and all that..

looking up the law now!

Just what I was wondering!

I am intending to email the customs in Oz to ask about airguns (good for topping koalas.....) and things like garden tools, golf trolleys etc.

If anyone has the definitive answers that will save doing that.

Sorry can't be definite but I read in a removal guide that no type of gun could be taken into Oz. Can't see why though.

Short answer - NO.

I shipped mine over (BSA Super Meteor that I had owned since I was about 14) in my container. It was listed in the manifest. Customes siezed it when it got here.

It was held for a number of reasons. One was that it was not fitted with a safety catch. In order to get it back from customs I would have had to pay to have a safety fitted (about $50-100). then I would have had to join a gun club and prove that I had somewhere safe to use the gun.

My nephew has a farm and has guns - I asked about whether I could just transfer the thing to him (then I could have used it there) but it has to be released to the person who is shipping it.

In the end, I decided it was all just too much trouble and I gave customs permission to destroy it (they could not even transfer it to a club or anything). I wish I had just given it to one of my friends in the UK.

I guess it is only worth it if the thing has massive sentimental or actual value.

Cheers,

DagBoy

That seems pretty conclusive then!

Thanks for the information. I'll save the gun for the day when I learn the visa queue for parents is still 40 years and then use it on myself.......

Not sure about the airgun rule but we are taking garden tools and golf trolley and clubs. They just have to be disinfected with a MAFF approved disinfectant (we used Jeyes Fluid) and very thoroughly cleaned of all mud, grass, etc. Our packers labelled these items "Clean" on the outside. Also with garden tools they don't like any rust so if there is any, spray them with hammerite before they are packed.

Hope this helps

unless your a member of a club ,you cannot own a fire arm and use it. IF you are a primary producer [farmer etc] , your ok. Auto weapons are banned , pump shot guns etc , can still have lever action 30-30 winchester , bolt action 5 shot minium mags , we have a shot gun as breeding bantam chickens ,we have trouble with foxes ,double barrel , over and unders ok if your a skeet club member, if you can justify owning a certain weapon you can generally get away with it. .......... Does anyone know what the situation is with regard to other weapons? I have a collection of swords that I would like to take with me. Mainly ceremonial swords of indian and samurai (replica) origin. As long as they are clearly marked in our container, will there be any problem?

Cheers,
Keith.

As long as you declare them ,you should not have any problems ,we had an ex british ,commando, who had a double edged dagger mounted on a regimental shield, an obvious momento from his military days , because he did not declare it,he almost had it, confiscated, as double edged, weapons are an illegal import,[ ie butterfly knives,] after some fast talking and common sense ,it was returned. ...........when you fill in your dec-form for customs just high light the swords, and empahsise the word Ceremonial...........
