Default agents v D.I.Y?

hello everyone, this is my first post and feeling a bit sick!

have just sent off my application to DIMIA for permanent residency and well, didn't use an agent. is that my first major mistake?
time on my hands, so thought i would do it myself, thoroughly researched everything, i think anyway, although now that everything is in the hands of a courier, i'm having daft thoughts, like did i remember to sign the thing and so on!
does anyone have any thoughts, to calm me down?
i think i'm healthy, don't have a criminal record, job worth 60 points, trying to stay positive!

Don't worry thandie
It's not that complicated. Plenty of us have done it without an agent.

If your application is straightforward then it is pretty easy.

Agents don't get any priority (and don't claim to ) despite what you may hear.

Good luck

Same here Thandie we DIYed ours. TRA took just a few weeks to send it back and yes, we got it! Only thing that got botched up was the ruddy bank with the charges, (a UK one I might add) but thats another story!!!
Welcome Cheeky

thank you for the luck!

did meet with a couple of agents, they charged me £50 plus just for sitting in their office. really nice people, although one of them did phone me at work about 5 times, no joke, asking if i wanted to proceed with an application, did not go down well with the boss.
way i looked at it, i personally had to apply to have my skills assessed and gather references and so on, so thought i would just proceed to fill in forms and the rest. so, without sounding really rude grayling, what exactly do they do, other than fill out 47SK and obviously know all the jargon?
i was under the impression initially, that they had some kind of influence, but then i was informed that infact they do not. is it simply the matter that they take all of the stress off of you? and of course their experience.

Hi there

First post is always a bit daunting....I'll have to go back and see what ours first !

We did DIY on the basis that most of it is common sense and we hadn't found this site then either - that would have probably scared us half to death ! We've got there and so have plenty of others.

I'm sure it will be fine. As the great wise Grayling says. Many of us have done it and its not that complicated. Some of the agents are great (like Alan Collet)and obviously know their stuff with more complex applications where there are diificult family circumstances or potted career history/qualifications.

Hang on in there. There'll be plenty more of that self doubt and questionng over the coming months. Just remember, its better to have tried than not to have tried at all.

Good luck

hello warren,
have found you and your wife's posts brilliant. and loved to hear that your little'un, can't remember the exact words, is doing really well over in australia, completely agree that you should have your stuff published, and i'm not into grovelling, just honesty.
reading one of your posts this evening, saw that you mentioned shotley bridge, i worked there back in 1997, great place, great hospital, great nurses' home! got my only formal letter of warning from shotley, drunk with friends, sledging down the bank from the nursing home on 'gas boards', woke half of
the hospital i think. oops!
why is it alway SO cold in shotley bridge and consett?

thandie

thank you for the information regarding D.I.Y too, hope i can pull it off.

oh christ cheeky, do not want to cause any panic.
i'm applying on 47sk for perm. res., i'm a nurse, so have included pay slip as, i think, was asked by DIMIA. i've probably got it wrong, do not worry, it just said something about government workers including a recent payslip. have i got it wrong? don't panic!

thandie

what are you applying for and what is your nominated occupation?

No worries Thandie

We are applying for skilled australian sponsored visa.
Looked through handbook and your rite it does ask you to include payslip. And more so if you work for gov. When we hear from them they may ask us for one then. We still have to send meds up so I can enclose one with those. Dont worry bout stuff like this thats what forums for!! Ya helped me out m8!! Thanks Cheeky

PS sorry cant give out nom occupation on here gotta keep it anon.
