Smile Advice on visas Please

Hello, We hope these following questions don't seem daft, but we are in the very early stages of thinking of moving to Brisbane and would greatly value anyones advice on the following:-

We are looking to move in approx. 2 years time. When is the best time to apply for a visa? for example does the visa commence as soon as you have been accepted or can you, when applying, state when you want it to run from?

Can anyone tell us approx. how long does it take for your application to be processed?

Do the visas have any expiry dates? We are looking at a skilled sponsored visa.

Any info would be greatly appreciated . Rachel and Jon

Hi there... I don't think it matters when you apply, but you would have an " entry by " date which is usually 12 months from the date on your medical or police checks whichever is sooner.
The visa has to be validated by the entry date ....by entering oz.
No you can't specify start dates.
Timescales vary wildley from weeks to years! however 139 visas are on fast track at the moment, along with nurses.
A PR Visa is for five years.
Answers to these and many more questions can be found at www.immi.gov.au they have free booklets to download, a must if you're going to make the move.
Hope this helps you out, and good luck

Hi - welcome to the mad house. Don't be put off by the squabbles - we all luv each other really and it just our way of letting off steam sometimes.

Anyway, if you are looking at moving in 2 years I'd kick the ball off now as there is usually a load of naff sorting out to do before you actually lodge the application. You can always hold off with the application after you get your initial assesment TRA thing done.

Visa is granted and is normally 12 months from when you had your medicals/police checks done but depending on when it comes through you are sometimes only left with a few months to get out here. eg we revceived our visas in August and our entry date was May 8th the next year.

Good luck with it all and just post your questions and someone will have an answer for you

Diane
