Advice needed from Sydneysiders
We are planning on getting a short term rental for a couple of weeks when we first get over there in January to give us time to look at long term lets.
Where should we be aiming at location wise for the holiday let - the city or the North Shore which is where we are thinking of settling?
Any advice as always gratefully received?

You can probably get holiday lets anywhere where there are tourists - i.e. Central area, Northern Beaches, Manly, Dee Why but if you need to get into the centre quickly then either central ir Manly.
Good luck

we stayed with this lot over three years ago in Hornsby, but have know people since that have stayed in others.
The Hornsby ones are a walk to the station and should give you an idea of the commute. They have everything we needed and having a fully furnished and serviced appartment for six weeks meant we had to buy nothing for the first part of the stay until our stuff turned up at the rental we organised.
If you don't have considerations of kids and schooling I would go for the city and then make sure you drive out to get a feel for the different burbs.
Cheers

Where abouts in MK do you live? I used to live in Furzton.
One word of warning- If you want to live in Manly thats fine, but if you want to be close to the city for your two weeks then i wouldnt stay in Manly. I have friends that live there and love it, but always winge at the time it takes to get to the CBD- eg the only direct route is by ferry and somtimes they are few and far between. You can also get a bus, but Military Road in the rush hour leaves a lot to be desired :scared:
