Default Advice needed...

Hey folks,
A bit of background info...I've started down the long road for an Australian Visa, just awaiting the outcome of my skills assessment from the ACS and would like your thoughts on the following...

The place where I currently work in the UK also has offices in Sydney, my initial plan being to take up the option of transferring over there when my (independent) visa was finalised. However, I have been headhunted for a much better paid job (inc. bonus) at a company that doesn't have offices in Oz... I would like to amass a decent amount of savings before I finally emigrate and can only see this happening if I take the new job. So, as I see it, I have a couple of options...

1. Stay where I am and transfer over to the Sydney office when my Visa is approved (on current timescales - approx 2 years). I'd have less savings amassed to live off, but have my foot in the door with an Australian employer (more benficial in the long run...?)

2. Change jobs now, save lots and get a job with a new company when I get out to Oz (without any Australian work experience - could prove tricky?)

What would you do in my position? Option 1 or option 2?

Thanks

Don't put your life on hold for something that may never happen. Take the new job offer.

Seems like a bit of a no brainer, take the new job if it is a job you want to do.

None of us have Australian work experience when we first move to Australia. It isn't in the slightest bit tricky; IT is IT, accounting is accounting etc.

I agree too. Take the new job, it may give you more experience making you more employable once you're over here. My husband also had no Australian work experience when we first came out and it made no difference. I think most people are happy that a good amount of experience in an occupation is the same wherever you get it. The other thing is that even if you don't do an internal transfer, you know that you'll be known in your current company and can always apply directly to the Sydney office later!

Plus, you can tell any prospective employer that you were headhunted!

Congrats on the job offer and good luck with the visa application!

Thanks very much everyone! That's good advice

I do kinda feel that I've put my life on hold whilst waiting for my visa to be granted and I think I just need to get on with things!

Tubbs - that is true, I could always apply direct to the Sydney office when I get out there! Good idea!

Cheers!

The only advice i would give any Brit coming out here is keep your grumbles to yourself.
I remember sitting around the lunch room in the Uk with the boys talking about
what an idiot the boss was.
It took me a long time to work out that you cant do that in Aussie as one of your work mates will brown nose and tell the boss.
It happened to me in four different work places until i woke up.
"What do you think of the boss" "He seems ok" is the best answer.
