Red face advice

i no its not right but we owe 15500 on our car and we are willing to take 14000 and pay the rest off but at about 10 pound a month. if we havent paid it by the time we get the go ahead and go to oz we are just wanting to slip away quietly without paying whats left. we feel guilty but at the same time we are making a bit of a stand because they over charged us when we bought the cat and they refused to fix a problem that we had with the car since we bought it. any advice what to do you see going ti australia is a new start and we dont want to be looking over our shoulers we want to enjoy it
any help appreciated

I can see where you are coming from but do you honestly think you would feel like it was a new start if this was hanging over you all the time? I doubt it very much. If they're happy to accept £10 per month aren't you able to continue this when you arrive in Oz? A new start could be exactly that then, with no worries!

Good luck

Prepare yourself for some less than complimentary replies as the "holier than thou" brigade get their teeth stuck in and pass judgement!

Hi

I'm not being holier than thou but I wouldnt do it. Financial institutions are much smarter now days and do find people and also if you dont pay and then australia isnt for you, they will sting you with a nasty court summons on your return. this will blow all chances in the future of getting credit at a good rate.

People do get busted all the time for leaving debt behind. My advice would be to talk to them before you go and come to an arrangement. Like the other post said, cant you carry on with the 10 pond payments from aus anyway. You will feel much better about it and not like your hiding from something.

Think you've answered it yourself, haven't you? You don't want to be looking over your shoulder or having preying on your mind, so personally I'd rather just pay it off at the set amount every month.

But ultimately, your choice.....

Absolutely, I will admit to having a fair amount amount of debt to pay before I leave but am going to pay every penny back even though I could do with that extra cash. But, as others have said, I would be worrying constantly and it would prey on my mind. I'd rather pay it and have a clear conscience.

I am not knocking anybody who does leave without paying because that is for their consciences to deal with. I am just saying what is right for me. If you have any doubt about whether to pay it or not then I would say pay it. If you were dishonest enough not to pay it you wouldn't be worried about other peoples opinions. Good luck with whatever you choose to do

Tracey
