We have Bigpond ADSL 1500/256kbps Liberty-25GB $89.95 per month.
It takes approx 2hrs to download 1 episode of Coronation Street from UKNova, does this seem right? We are getting a download speed no more than 25kbps and using u torrent as the download client.
Looking forward to some helpful replies on this matter.
Thanks
M

I don't think Bigpond throttle your speed on torrents so its either your modem or just a lack of seeds on the torrent.
For that money there are plenty of 8000k / 60G- 75G plans available on Telstra infrastructure

Trouble with torrents is that they rely on others being there, and them having set a 'fair' share (throttle) for uploading. If it is taking that long it is for that reason only
Try a different 'torrent sharing site' if your allowed by your provider.

On a side note, what is the average MB for Australian internet users please.

Bigpond have a habit of metering uploads on their plans so you might find you reach your download limit pretty quickly using torrents. (In fact perhaps you've already done that and have had your speed 'capped' - hence slow speed now?)
You need to get away from BigPond ASAP - for that money you could get a really decent ADSL2 account with a proper ISP - possibly even a naked ADSL account and ditch the phone line expense too!
If you're contractually locked into BigPond then you may need to limit uploads from your torrent client to stop excessive use of your data. Problem with this is private trackers require you to have a decent ratio of upload-download. So you might be stuck!! Look carefully at the cost of breaking your contract. It might be worth paying to get out and get decent ISP account!

I use thebox.bz and an episode of Benders takes about 10 minutes to download on ADSL2+ with an 8 meg line.
That said, you need to check if bigpond count uploads - it should be fairly easy to see in your T&C's if you look for this. This will be a problem for you if you use UK nova or thebox as to remain a member you need to upload more than you download - or if you are not familiar with how to set things up you may be permanently uploading, not know it and thus be 'shaped' - as outlined above.
Few things to consider I'm afraid...
