Admin work in Brisbane
Hi all,
We will be arriving in Brisbane in March. My husband has a job on 457 visa with his current company, so will be working almost as soon as we arrive.
I will be looking for work and I am pretty much happy to do anything office based and have 10 years insurance experience.
Does anyone know what the situation like is for English getting work. Do companies prefer to have locals or are they happy if you have the right skills etc?
We are extremely fortunate that financially I do not need to earn very much but more that I would go crazy not working.
What would a rough salary for an adminstration role be? I appreciate that this is a very open question.
Thanks in advance
L

Be prepared to
a) get heaps of rejections, due to lack of Australian experience (even us Aussies get that response, as I recently put in for one position that attracted over 160 other applicants after only being advertised for two weeks);
b) join the queue and try for something else until you can land what you want, even part-time;

True, but if your post doesn't show up on the first couple of pages it might not get noticed. I usually check BE everyday and usually on look at the first page or two. Once it gets pushed too far back it's unlikely anyone will see it.
Normally I don't like when people bump up their own posts but if after a few days or a week then I would posting a quick message to get people to see it again. You were very patient (which I like) but maybe a bit too patient!

You can always look up a state government department's website and have a look at the award rate (wage) or a job website like seek.com.au to get a feel of how much the average wage is.

Depends if you are working full time or part time, government or private. I think a base grade administration staff in a government department gets around 35k to 45k per annum full time.

Try sites like:
Seek
Career One
though bear in mind the usual problems with online job sites.
If nothing else it should give you an idea.
There are lots of threads about how tough it can be to get jobs at the mo, especially without specialist skills.
