Default Adelaide V Sunshine Coast

Hi All, A long time since I have been on here. Still living in Adelaide, has been 14 years this year!! Still not settled really and feel something is missing. My son, daughter in law and my 2 grandchildren live on the Sunshine Coast and would love me to move up there to be nearer to them. I love the idea but then the thought of the humidity, the bigger spiders, cockroaches etc and also the chance of finding work etc starts to scare me a bit. I dont really like the heat, love the sunshine but not over keen on heat as it just zaps me (And makes my hair frizz too!). Has anyone else moved from Adelaide up there and what is your true experience. Thanks so much, looking forward to your replies. xxx

It's only too hot/humid in summer, the rest of the year is nice.
Jobs would be the issue in the Sunshine Coast depending on what you do.

That's frankly underselling it:
- Spring / fall is brilliant, mostly "27 and fine" with occasional light overnight rain
- Winter is just about as pleasant, but with daily highs in the 18 - 22 range.
- Summer is highly variable; sometimes hot and humid, sometimes extremely stormy, sometimes perfect beach weather.

So, 9 months a year of reliably great weather, and 3 months in a weather casino (good, bad, or indifferent).

I'd take that over any other place in Australia that I've experienced, from a pure weather perspective (and the wider SEQ area is pretty livable on other grounds as well). Unfortunately, one also has to pay the rent/mortgage, so alas, we don't live there anymore.

But if you can find a decent job in the area, go for it.

(And if you encounter the occasional spider / cockroach, isn't that what the extended family is for...? )

I have liven in the area 20 years and I think I dislike summer more each year.

Thanks for your answers. I was up there just last week and it wasnt too humid but just feel hot and sweaty all the time. I suppose if I lived there in a house with a breeze and a pool it might help. Being English I do like a bit of coldness and a grey day occasionally and like boots and Jeans so wonder if it gets cool enough in the winters? It seems the coast has gone mad at the moment with lack of houses, rentals, jobs etc so maybe I need to wait a bit longer. Its crazy that we made the move from the UK to Adelaide aged 40 with no jobs or a house etc and we made a go of it but now to move states seems so daunting to start all over again! I suppose it dosnt help that hubby dosnt want to leave Adelaide but I just wanna be near my son and family now. What a nightmare 😒 x

Yes I think if this work from home sticks after COVID then places like that are going to get very busy/expensive.
