Thumbs down Adelaide or Brisbane

Hi All,

I suppose this question has been asked a million times but I can't find any information on where would be better for a family with 5 young children to live.

We are not into theme parks and the beach, but do prefer an outdoor lifestyle including cycling / walking and swimming.

Would adelaide be better for us or Brisbane.

Any ideas.

Cheers

Mike

Hi Mike,

There a alot of different things to consider and it may be easier to get employment in one or the other depending on what you do for a living. They are very different places and remember that Queensland is not just Brisbane. Personally I'm in Adelaide and it fits the criteria you require in your post, however for many it lacks something. Have also been to Brisbane, though only for a week to check it out, I found getting about a bit too much hassle around the city and although I liked it, not sure I could live it. However there are so many other places to consider in Queensland.
Good luck in your decision making and remember many people come to one place and then end up somewhere else, if you change your mind you can move.

Good luck

Adelaide will tick all your boxes that you have mentioned. However after visiting the Gold Coast prior to arriving in Adelaide, I would personally prefer Queensland. I wouldn't want to live in Brisbane but there are lots of other family orientated places in Queensland. At least if you live there you can take the theme parks or leave them, in Adelaide you have not choice what so ever.
Adelaide is a quiet place, with, in my opinion, not a lot going on (others will say different)
If it were possible I would visit both places. A lot of people in Adelaide have relocated to Queensland or Perth as it's not right for them, so as I have said if a visit to both is possible, do that rather than forking out thousands again to relocate.
We had to come to Adelaide, but if we had the choice we would have chosen Q'land without a doubt.
Everyone is different but this is just my opinion.

I am still in Adelaide, so am not really up on the areas in Queensland, I have just read other people's posts stating that there are family orientated areas.
We hope to do a reccy sometime next year up there, so will be looking around and would be interested myself of any decent areas.
I am sure someone will fill you in, who is actually living up there.

hi

I have not been to Adelaide so this is not a comparison, but Queensland is lovely, its where we intend to live, Brisbane is rather busy, but the gold coast, sunshine coast and bits in between are fantastic, the further north you go the more tropical it becomes, there are lots of things to do and would highly recommend a visit.

What do you do for a living?

The places are so different you really need to do a rekkie trip to look at both!! Everybody likes different things in life and as always is said some prefer one place to the other for different reasons!!

We love Adelaide and that is where we are heading in January, but just because we love it dont mean you will!!

South Australia is lovely - many wonderful beaches, forests, wineries, etc - a super place for young families. Queensland also is lovely but I always think of it more as a holiday destination (being an Aussie). Interestingly, lots of Crows (South Aussies) migrate north to Queensland for the winter because it has the best weather during those months. Best of both worlds.
