Default actual costs of migration

I am sitting here, trying to work out how much it will cost us in total to get into Australia. I have just had an estate agent round to value the house, and want to make sure my sums are right.

So far on my list I have:

Estate agents fee
Solicitors
Shipping
Flights
Credit Cards
Medicals
Spouses Visa

What have I missed, bearing in mind the list is only to get into the country. Then I will convert into Dollars for the rest.

If you spot anything I have missed please let me know, I dont want any nasty shocks.

Skills assessments and trade registration by registered bodies, if relevent. Im a nurse, I had to do both!

Dont forget, not included in your medical fees are xrays and blood tests, prices vary wherever you go. And you also have to pay for the postal costs of sending all the results to Australia!

If I think of anything else I will let you know!

Question

Thanks for your replies,
we are being really tight and not using agents, no assesments for work as I am Australian, my husband is not.

I didnt know that the xrays and bloods cost extra, so thanks for that.

Anything else anyone else can think of will be much appriciated.

Thanks

Don't know if it applies, but police checks and certifying of documents can cost too.

Hazel.

Depends what sort of visa you are going in on. I had to lodge 3500 Aussie Dollars in a bank account. which is refundable after two years or used to repatriate you if you run out of dosh. I had a bit of shock with that one as I was charged 150 dollars for the privalage of opening the account.

Rule of thumb - like when you have an extension built, or go on holiday everything always costs at least 25% more than you plan for. Don't forget things like loss of income if you haven't got a job to go to.

It's not going to be cheap.

Travel insurance for you and family members...

Medical insurance cover immediately upon arrival....

Loss of no claims bonus on car insurance etc....

Car rental until you can buy one....

Household items to be bought if you arrive before your container...

Storage charges if the container arrives before you......

Wow... adds up doesn't it?

Yeah but think of the mega profit you make on our over priced UK property

We feel the cost of PR visa and bits and bobs to go with is what some would spend on a annual holiday

Thanks,

Cool Costs

You could always advertise your house through the local free ads paper, local shop adverts or internet to save on massive estate agents fees which would go far in Oz!

Hi Terry

Spreadsheet sounds interesting, what sort of things have you included on it?

I have my list but am paranoid that I have forgotten something.

thanks for all your replies

I think that we have just about covered everything this end.

Good point about selling house ourselves though.

Next job, what it will cost out there.

I wonder how long it takes on average to get a job, I have heard that Adelaide has alot of jobs available at the moment.

Anyone know?

( this is such a good way of finding out - a good website!)
