yes, you should be OK, but you may be delayed at check in leaving the UK because of the different passports. Just leave plenty of time - be at check in EARLY, and make sure that you have notified DIMA of the new passprot number. If you have an acknowledgment from them that they have received it, then carry that too. :)

Can't find a mention of costs just this reference in the FAQs:

http://www.immi.gov.au/faq/perm_res/02.htm#x8

"If your visa label is in a passport which has expired, you can continue to use the old label until it expires by carrying both your old and new passports when travelling. "

Nah for putting a new visa label into you new passport (once you have the old one and the new one with you) then its free!! It was for me at the Brisbane office a few months ago - there was no even wiff of a mention about paying a fee!!

A change in passport after visa has been validated does not need to be notified to DIMA.

Jeremy, whats your view on Nedkelly's problem with the charge for his son's visa lable?

Re: Active Visa In Out Of Date Passport.

We had a slightly different situation where our 457 visa was granted electronically. Between the grant and actually travelling, my wife renewed her passport, and we were told to carry both.

No problems at Heathrow, but on arrival at Sydney we were 'detained' by immigration for 30 minutes. It was only when they realised that a 457 visa is transferable, and that we were not travelling on a tourist visa, that they allowed us through.

I suggest an email to DIMA explaining exactly what you need - just a label stuck in a new passport for your child as his old passport has expired. Tell them what you have been quoted, and you by, and lets see what they say. Make it clear that you just need a reprinted label, NOT an actual statement confirming residence in Australia.

Let the forum know the answer ..........

Well I didn't get a reply from DIMA so I popped into the Southport office this lunchtime and the clerk put a new label in my son's passport. And it was free! I think the problem must be that there is no actual price defined any where for a new visa label so the staff then have to go into improvisation mode.
