Default ACS Application

I just got my qualificaions checked by ACS - they sent me a form to join the ACS. Has anyone joined, benefited from it ?

I guess it depends on your specialisation and industry sector. I used to be in the BCS and for me as a self employed Oracle Consultant it was a waste of time, but for others it could prove to be very useful so there isn't a right or wrong answer to this one. I won't be joining the ASC unless there appears to be a benefit when job hunting...

i agree with Holsdad, Im a C++ developer and i too was sent the forms
but i have done some enquiries and it doesn't offer alot as far as Job front goes ...

will wait till i land (80 days) and see what happens then ...

I joined the ACS. each quarter you get the Insight magazine, which does give a good view into the Australian IT industry. (Although very wordy)

The members section of the Web Site does have job listings, but not that many. (only need an ASP programmer in Queensland)

Although there are loads of networking opps, (when in Oz). To be honest though I'm not convinced its worth the £90.

We joined it for a couple of years until we got here and have just cancelled it after a year of being here. Turned out not to be useful to us and had no time to read all the magazines and papers they sent.

I still renew my BCS membership every year. I've not joined the ACS yet. I claim the membership fee (along with my union fees) as a tax deduction.
