Default ACCA qualifications

Hi

We are considering moving over to Oz.. my OH will be ACCA qualified. Does anyone know whether he will have good opportunities over there with this accounting qualification? and whether it is well recognised?

thanks!

Have a look in the "accountants" forum. This has been discussed there already.

I am FCCA and got a job before I left the UK...........depends where you will settle but I would say you would be fine almost anywhere........good accountants (ie those with good experience over years and years) will be much sought after.........

qualification is one thing...........experience is another when going for senior roles.

ah thanks that's encouragin to hear!

would you mind letting me know how you went about looking for a job from the UK? was it mostly internet searching or did you go through an agency?

also if you dont me asking how many years experience had you had before you went over?

my OH will only have 1/2 years POST qualifications. maybe you would advise to get more experience before moving over?

thanks!

Hi there,
We have just gone down this route with my hubby. To apply to an australian accounting body your OH must be a full member of ACCA which means he should have 3 years experience in total either pre or post final 3 exams, when he becomes eligible to use ACCA after his name he can apply for a skills assessment. Hubby had a log book which ACCA required to be completed over the 3 year period by hubbys employers stating that he was capable to become a member. Saying this we only read up on NIA didn't bother with the other bodies as NIA was straight forward (we have only just sent this past week) so don't know if hubby has qualified or not.
Good Luck
Andrea
xx

Internet searches on seek.com.au then get on a buddy buddy relationship with an agency.

You should be ok with whatever experience you need to qualify for membership of acca that gets you the visa (unless you are getting visa another way)............newly qualified accountants are in big demand is what I hear.

I have over 15 years post qualification experience including public practice, large multi-nationals and worked around the world and lots of experience with large complex financial systems...........not many like this in oz from what I can tell.

Hey there

My OH and I have now been in Sydney for just over a year and immigrated on the basis of my ACCA qualifications. I had 6yrs PRE Qualification experience with only 8mths POST as I was only officially accepted as an ACCA member in May 2004 (dragged my heels on starting the ol' exams). We applied for skills assessment in late Jan 05, had positive decision in early March (NIA), submitted full application to DIMA a week later (I'm very organised ) and we were granted PR in July 05. I had to provide evidence of experience gained which was in the format of an employer reference stating my responsibilities as well as my job title and descriptions for the last three years although from what I can remember in order to claim the 60 point occupation you must be able to provide evidence of at least 12 mths immediately prior to application and the role must be considered appropriate i.e. accounts clerk ain't gonna cut it.....

As for getting a job, we arrived on 9th Aug, had gave ourselves a week to get flat, bank etc sorted, started looking for a job on Tues, had interview on Thurs and started work following Tues :scared: Sydney are shouting out for accountants although be warned you will usually have to start on temp role as you don't have Aussie experience and your temp rate if lower than that of the locals....

All's well that ends well though - I was offered perm role within 3 mths and have recently been promoted

Hope that helps - if you need any more info send me a PM....

where in Oz are you headed????
