Default Is a 747 a Jumbo?????????

Silly question I know, but is it.

Only last time we flew to Perth, we used Royal Brunei, and the plane was so small the kids thought it was a passenger plane for the Isle Of Wight, and were really disappointed.

So is it a Jumbo or not???????????

It is indeed a jumbo. Boeing would rather you not call it one, though.

Hi
There are different sizes of 747 planes starting at the 747/200
to the 747/400, so you could of been on the 200 version which would seem small.

Hope this helps.

747's are indeed known as 'Jumbos'. However, Royal Brunei do not have any 747's in their fleet.

My personal advice would be to choose a flight on a Boeing 777 instead. They're not quite so big but are wider and the ones that Singapore Airlines fly had loads more space than their 747's.

After flying in a 777 I'll not fly on a 747 ever again if I can help it.

What about the 747-100 ?

OK, so, very little chance of finding one still flying I suppose

Thank you all........not sure what the plane was that we was on last time.
All I know it was small!!!
The seats were 2 then 3 then 2. and you had to board the plane right at the front.walk through business and first to get to economy.

Good job I hadnt paid for 1st. Would have been pissed off with all and sundry traipsing through!!

Why would Boeing start with a 200 series aircraft? The first 747 was the 747-100, which rolled out of Seatle in September 1968

Royal Brunei mainly use 757's and 767's.

Errrr, are you sure it was a 747? Even the smallest of the bunch, the 747SP is anything but small. Certainly wouldn't find them landing on Isly of Wight, unless in an emergency. the -200 or -400 are just about the same size to the human eye. Bit different in the wingspan. The SP is shortened and therefore stubby looking, but has the same height and wingspan as it's big sisters.

For a while people tried to refer to other widebodies as "jumbo". Like the DC10. Didn't quite catch on. Now the term itself is so 70s.

As for 747 vs 777: depends on the airline. United's 777 are some of the tightest fits I've ever sat in, in economy. I'll take the 747-400 any day there. Personal preference is the dome in the -400. If you can get an upgrade.
