Default 457 Visa

Hi, sorry if this has been asked before but im new on here.

I have an interview with a company in Melbourne at the end of april. I work for the same company in London just now and have spoke to the manager in Melbourne who is also British and he says i'd fit in great because id be doing the exact same job in Oz that im doing here in London. Anyway, the question is if i do get the job is a 457 Visa pretty straight forward to get? I have read the criteria for applying for one and i fit it all. I just wondered how long it would take and how much it costs or any other info you may have.

Again sorry if its been asked before.

Cheers

Stu

If it is an internal transfer, your present company should pretty much pay all the costs for the visa. It can take just a couple of weeks to get a 457, but 5-8 weeks is a more normal timeframe.

Ask your boss about LAFHA (living away from home allowance) moving expenses and accomodation on arrival. All saves lots of money in the long run.

Do a search on 457's here and you will find plenty more info & pro's & con's as well.

Good luck with the interview.

Scottish Stu, in essex?

Hey bro,

Pretty straight forward getting your 457, put a few hours aside and do some searching on here and on the DIAC website, it should answer most of your questions.

I came over with my partner and daughter about a year ago on a 457 and am loving it.

Dont get to hung up on what $$ benefits and allowances and whats gonna pe paid for. If you want to come you will no matter what. I was recruited by a relatively small company, paid every $$ out of our own pocket and have no regrets.

as the saying go's "all that is not given is lost"

Hi Mate
One of the bad points about a 457 (I was on one once) if you was to loose your job, you have 28 days to find a new employee willing to take you on and take over your 457 visa. If you cannot get employment, you have 28 days to leave the country.

If you are confident the job is safe (I was) then there should be no issues, but I have had a number of foreign mechanics knocking at my door recently trying to secure employment as they have been laid off. Not a nice situation for them and their families to be in.

Personally.... GO FOR IT! You'll not look back.... but only you can make the final decision.
Good luck
