The digital frequencies are different between Oz and the UK so you'll lose out on the built in digital tuner.

i thought i read somewhere that you could select a different country on the tv menu and it would work, i believe it was france or germany

That works with Analogue TV's.

You will probably get a better price than that in store though as you can haggle a little. Also if you have other electrical goods to get, you can get a discount for buying them all together (you have to ask for their best price though :D)

Don't forget that any new items brought into the country may also be subject to GST (10%) - well that's assuming they know it's new ;)

Bought a Samsung 46" full HD LCD from Good guys last year. Samsung were offering a second 19" HD LCD for free with that. We haggled and paid cash and ended with 2 TV's for just over $2000. I would think that in the current climate you could pick up a bargin from Good Guy's or Harvey Norman who, earlier today, announced that they would be closing 10 stores.
