Default 200k to become unemployed in Australia

Im in and around Sydney, a lot of trades are telling me that they dont have much work on & things are very quiet. There also seems to be more shops now boarded up even in shopping malls.

On the news there a lot about rising unemployment, im just wondering with the people coming to OZ from the UK & other places how likely they are to find employment with the rising unemployment.

On the good side the exchange rate is good to convert Sterling To Oz, and house prices are falling (buyers market now)

Or what about the chancesd of regular Australians ie not emigrating from other countries?
If there is rising unemployment, why is the government promoting immigration to Australia (skills), rather than promoting or encouraging increasing the skill level of locals?

Business has definitely quietened down compared to 6 months ago in Perth. The next 12 months are going to be fun - NOT

Builders and electricians we deal with are saying it's slowed to a crawl at the moment... They're all ok for the next 6 months, but the quoting for work has dried up a lot...

Because immigrants work harder & longer than their Aussie counterparts that spend all day lazing on the beach or surfing

Well maybe they should actually respond to requests for quotations then instead of never calling back / never responding / generally not being bothered.

The oz government states that there is a skills shortage of 200,000 throughout Oz, so wouldnt that level out the unemployment if there is already the shortage there?
