Smile 20 mins on train to brisbane CBD

Hi all, Happy New Year!!

I have been reading this site for a while now as we are hopefully (fingers and toes all crossed) moving to Brisbane in March on a temp 457 visa.

We are a couple in our early 30's. Husband will be working in CBD and we would like to live within 20 minutes on train or bus. Can anyone list a few suburbs within the distance. Have been looking on both Domain and Realestate so have an idea of where some places are.

Also we are undecided whether to opt for an apartment or a house. We currently live in a 3 bed house in the UK and would still like the same amount of space (bedrooms). Any pros and cons to either?

Many thanks for your help.

Toowong, Indooroopilly, Taringa, St. Lucia to the west.

Can also use the City cat (Boat) from Toowong and St. Lucia.

Brisbane train, bus etc timetables and routes. The drama will be parking at the stations if you're not close enough to walk, and full trains

Likewise Bulimba and Hamilton.

Morningside is 20-25mins to Central on the train, Norman Park a little less (you can also get the CityCat from Norman Park). Morningside is a pleasant little town in its own right, with plenty of shops, restaurants, etc and the train station has a decent car park for commuters, so long as you get there reasonably early.

From a lot of suburbs you can walk into the city if you want to keep fit.

There are hundreds of people who walk, jog or cycle down Coronation drive from Toowong every day.

May be a bit unpleasant in the summer but it is still an option.

Coro Drive is a dirty word (or two) for me right now, since they are closing the right turn from Hale St tonight. My trip to work will become a whole lot worse once the kids go back to school and normal service resumes on the roads

Will your budget allow you to rent/buy that close to the city? Just something to consider if you haven't already.

The whole inner city bypass has been a pain in the ass for a while.

With any luck it will all be finished soon.

Brisbane is an awful place for traffic at the moment.

I have been reliably informed that property is cheap in Brisbane.

As someone mentioned earlier even if you live in the close suburbs, unless you are a short walk from the station it can be a problem getting to the train in the first place.

I live near to Mount Coot-tha in West Toowong.....it takes about 20-30 minutes to walk to the station. Parking anywhere near the station is a nightmare. There is a bus from just up the road but, if you are going to use the bus to get to the station then you may as well stay on the bus a bit longer and get to town that way.

The city cat runs from the Regatta but that is close to the rail station so same problems.
