Not everyone gets through the selection of course but if you are interested then give it a go.

I heard last week that a fair number of those that arrive in Adelaide fail to graduate from the SA Police training school, and the high failure rate has become a problem. This is hearsay and I don't have numbers.

First post - hope its ok! - myself and my husband are both in TVP, UK. Like many others we are looking to emigrate. Perth have now stopped recruiting but SA police will open their recruitment drive 2009-2010. The police don't seem to be on any of the skills list as you need to be sponsered direct by the force. You would get a regional migration sponsered visa (i think!) with SA police. You can email and register an interest now (which is what we've done) It would only be the PC who is the main applicant and as i understand it the spouse / kids get in much more easily. Bit of a worry about the applicants failing courses though

(I tried searching but so much to look through would take forever. )

I am a 35 year old policeman in UK and have a Vietnamese wife who speaks almost fluent English. (I don't have a degree and neither does she.)

Just wanted to know please what kind of chance you think we would have to move to Aussie, as it is a dream of ours. What could I be doing now to enhance our chances?

Thank you in advance, if this info is posted elsewhere a link to the thread would be greatly appreciated.
Hi
Both South and Western Australia will get you over to Oz police quickly and even arrange your visas..but be prepared for a very big drop in pay (depending how long you have been in the force in the U.K). I know cost of living is slightly less in Oz but the gap between pay there and here is still huge. My partner got offered south Australia police and we decided that we just couldn't live on the salary there, i think western Australia is a bit better pay wise. They have been offered work with Queensland Police Force but they don't actively recruit and you need to be a permanent resident first..so would need to be either sponsored by a relative, partner etc with PR status already.
Do you specialise in any area of the police. my partner is in Child protection area here and a lot of the jobs that police do here are done through Queensland Government there..that is the route they are going as it is much better pay for the same job (and no shifts)..but they will have permanent residency as I will be sponsoring them!
I have been told that after 6-8 months in the police in Oz you can do an exam and get senior constable position or specialise (after doing the PACE conversion programme for U.K bobbies).

New Zealand actively recruit from U.K too once or twice a year.

Look on the police forum as there are great posts on there that will give you most of the answers that you will need.

Good luck.
