So, August is just round the corner and my one way ticket to Brisbane is looming.
I'm lucky enough to be dual nationality so I've been spared with the visa endurance test. I've also lived in Oz over the years on and off. I'm what you called a true Blue/Brit that boomerangs from country to country. However back then I didn't have children. So now my youngest is 12, I'm fed up with the mass population of the UK and lousy weather, ridiculously long winters and off to Oz again. This time it's with kids, house and dog. This time it's really a one way ticket. Yes I'm excited. Yes I'm beginning to wobble also.
it's such a massive step when it comes down to it. It doesn't help when England is at its most beautiful either!
Things I will miss about England are:
Quirky villages, country pubs, especially with roaring fires even in summer. Oldie worldie houses. All the beautiful wild flowers like forget me knots, cowslips, cow parsley we have in abundance right now. Afternoon tea in a country garden. Walking the dog in woods (can't do that in Oz, snakes!), cheap bananas! Why are bananas expensive in Oz! Haha.
Things I will not miss in England! WEATHER. Too many people! Flats being built everywhere! Petrol prices! Aggressive drivers! Too many Chelsea Tractors down country lanes getting the little darlings to school! No outside activities in school holidays because lousy weather. The class divide.
I think the uk is a great place to live IF you have a lot of money! Can afford a few sun holidays a year, to have heating on all the time, winter clothing etc. To be able to afford kids activities!
I will truly miss England. However I've given Blightly a good amount of my years and now a new beginning awaits.
Live is too short when too many adventures out there waiting to have. The easy option is not always the best option, it's not easy leaving everything that's familiar, but you know, What do we have to lose?
House, kids and dog can always come back, but you know what.... I doubt it very much. Rather have a return ticket when visiting UK!

Thing being is far removed from bananas being too expensive in OZ. Look at lemons. Actually pretty much everything is over priced here, with Perth being more so than the main cities outside of housing.
I know it is easy to look towards Australia has being something other than Chelsea tractors, over priced housing, over worked people, (with a load of debt) too much regulation, deadening suburbs and hard to form relationships, but the positives are the sun still shines, the beaches continue to exist and a change of scene can be darn nice.

Flights booked 1st September into Brissie. Third time for me. Luck to have dual as well.
But this is the first time we have done the one way ticket.Container is sorted just need to give them a date to collect stuff. Not sure whether to have them collect before or after we leave.
Hoping to sign tenancy agreement this week so we don't have to do the holiday let thing.
Not sure what I will miss. Haven't given it much thought.
Things I won't miss:-
9 months of winter
short 3 months of summer at 22c
Christmas sat in a relatives front room on emergency chairs
4 bedroom house costing £425K
Traffic
The feeling you can not stand still for a minute and take your time before someone says excuse me
Lack of places for everything - swimming lessons, school places, etc
Life is to short not to enjoy.

Ah, another boomeranger with dual.
My container is coming few days before I fly. I'm hoping "touch wood" to complete on my house sale the week I fly. So shippers will come on the 10th Aug. I'm desperately trying to off load stuff that doesn't really need to go, I don't want to ship extra outside the 20ft container. So what ever doesn't fit on the day will go to the dump.
Am I crazy doing this alone? I'm single with an 18yr old and12 yr old. Have I really lost the plot?
My ex and I were going to do it together but he now has "issues" and going alone earlier.
I'm a bit concerned about work, however I can work in cafes as have lots of experience in that! Sadly. Lol.
I actually want August just to come now. The waiting bit is painful with everything is booked and paid for.
