On a serious note, how long would you think it will take to recover to a decent rate, if ever?

Now you're asking. Normally I'd expect the rate to start rising between now and September but with the UK's current economics I don't see that happening this year. I would be surprised to see 1.76 but I can see that there is the potential for a fall especially if India and China start making demands on Australian resources. Obviously China needs its customers to recover but with India I think there is some potential from internally generated demand.

I don't think we'll see a decent rate (for people with £s) this side of the UK election. So I'll go for 2.4 in September 2010.

But your guess is as good as mine.

Thanks for the insight MartinLuther - you were right last year! Just a shame it means we'll have to wait longer to buy here - devil and the deep blue - crap exchange rate or no interest in the UK.

Still have to sell UK place first........

Still 5 days to go. Could still be in the bag. Although if it's like last time it'll hit it sometime around the 5th October just to annoy me.

You're not wrong. I found myself thinking "If it gets to $1.50, then I may consider it..."

I notice that the GBP is starting to look like parity with the Euro. I wonder if Gordon would consider dragging us into that if it looks like the pound will devalue further?

1.76 today...you were not far out with your original prediction at all.

You can now be justified in giving Mr Cro some tips for future predictions
