Default Women's Day

I suppose an auguri for all the womenfolk on the forum is in order....

Here's a mimosa . .share it between you ..

It's not celebrated much in the UK is it? Zoe Ball just mentioned it on Radio 2, but she had to explain it all so I don't think many people in the UK know what it is.

Auguri from me too. Our local Centro Anziani is having a party for it this evening. I'm taking Donna C.

Thank you both. I used to live in a country where all women were treated really well on this day( office parties, flowers, presents), then when I went to live in the UK there was nothing. I suppose Mother's Day is some kind of equivalent.

Ah yes, Zoe (bless her) also reminded me it's (UK) Mother's Day on Sunday ... which I usually forget of course.

Hi from the France forum, where they announced it was Women's Equal Rights Day today.
No, not all women are mothers, and Mothers' Day is celebrated on different days depending on the country, and not necessarily mid-Lent like in the UK.

Bonjour France-person!
Yes it's an odd choice of date for Mother's Day isn't it? In Italy it's in May I think.

Mothers Day is a changable date due to the date of Easter in the UK, always known as Mothering Sunday when I was a child, and all children were given a posy of flowers at church to give to their mothers. International Womens Day was, I believe, started in the Soviet Union, which explains why it has taken longer to catch on in the UK but is slowly becoming better known.

Hi, I'm a mother!
When I was little, Mothering Sunday was the Sunday in mid-Lent when you were allowed to eat cakes (having given up goodies for Lent!) and gave your Mum a present. That Sunday has continued in the UK, but Continental Europe has different dates, 26th May in France this year.

Mothering Sunday is the 4th Sunday in Lent in the UK, so that explains the date differences each year.

Apparently it was started in the USA but by the American Socialist Party so quickly taken up by the Soviets.. It has always had that sort of "communist" tag attached to it in Italy, where the Communist Party was so strong for so long.
That seems to have gone now.. wonder why.

Everyone is equal, but some are more equal than others. Could that be the reason? I wouldn't mind Fassino's castle in Turin town centre.
