Default Starbucks in Italy, do you think it will work?

Starbucks rumours get Italians in a froth - The Local

Personally, I would not be their client, but there are many visitors in Italy who might drink their coffee.

Dominos pizza must think so.

Can Domino’s grab a pizza the Italian market? | Arwa Mahdawi | Comment is free | The Guardian

Looking forward to a X-large Brooklyn style Honolulu Hawaiian pizza with mango habanero sauce followed by a Chocolate Lava Crunch cake and a coffee (LARGE).

I hope it does not happen. This is Italy not the USA. Country identities are being destroyed by these huge international organisations spreading everywhere.
The coffee is vile and overpriced anyway. Keep them out I say - and take McDonalds with them.

I think you are safe down in Ceglie. Some of the best food in Italy around there.

Well I'm sure they'll struggle, but you never know. In a nearby holiday resort, a couple of Dutch chippie franchises lasted a brief summer boom, but have now closed down. I was also quite amazed to see a Japanese restaurant chain due to open in Rome in 2016 advertising on a London web site for chefs, sous chefs, and waiting staff? Don't think wecan get away from the fct that globalisation in tastes is a reality, especially for the younger generations.

Wow I'm shocked and I don't even live in Italy yet. Starbucks? In the land of coffee? Surely not? This has shaken my intentions to the core....I lived in Spain for some years and am now considered a real coffee snob here in blighty..luckily my OH is Italian by descent and shares my coffee snobbery..although we can have interesting discussions about Spanish V Italian coffee..

Even in Italy it's not always easy to get a decent cappuccino, which is why I'm an espresso man and have a cappuccino only in bars that I know. So figuriamoci... In the UK I've never had anything that even resembles a cappuccino: a very tall glass (or paper cup) filled right up with watery milk and tasting only vaguely of coffee. And costing at least twice as much as in Italy. Presumably Starbuck's will keep the price down until they've got a foothold.

The Percassi website assures me that Wagamama will open before the end of 2016 while Starbucks is for early 2017 .

The answer is simple you know. If you don't like it then don't go there and being a profit based business(!) it will die.
However if Italians go there then free choice. Against that?

Quite right , nobody is going to be forced in there against their will . Surely its no different to any other foreign name opening in Italy or Italian names being opened abroad be it food or fashion . If they don't make money they'll close .

It failed in Australia for the same reason it will fail in Italy. Tourists only.
