I am trying to find expats who work or have worked in Tripoli Libya. What is it like? Is personal safety an issue? What is the cost of living like? Is it easy to get in and out (visas, etc) Is the langauge of business English, Arabic or Italian. Can you buy 'western' products. Is there western TV and Radio? What is the health care system like? Can you get a driving licence and car OK? Can you transfer your salary out the country without restrictions? Is there a web site that can provide the answers.

I'm still interested to hear about the practicality of life there - especially for wives, kids etc.

Hi there,
Well, about your concerns...all that you've mentioned is available and more:
- Satelite TV (very cheap and easy to get installed)
- Personal Safety, I'd say very very safe.
- Cost of living is lesser than Europe, especially if you have someone to show you around.
- English is more common as a business language.
- Driving..oh well, take care...on the bright side, driving in Libya will make one an excellent driver.
- Liscence, ofcourse possible, if you have a UK liscence, its even easier...etc etc...
Bottom line is, knowing a local is the key. .
We are working on a site for expatriates in Libya at www.ExpatLibya.com (the 1st of its kind), and if you are planning to work in Libya, make sure you contact us directly with your requirements.
Hope this helps..
You're most welcome to Libya
