UGANDA - obtaining a document apostille?
My son has a Ugandan birth certificate and lives in Europe. He needs to present his birth certificate legalised with an apostille. Can anyone offer advice on how he gets that done, please?

Europe is a big place. Which country does your son live in?

Uganda isn't a signatory to the relevant international convention so they won't be able to produce an apostille for his birth certificate. Did you register his birth with the British authorities?

You can try and get the birth certificate legalised by the Ugandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This is the closest you will get to an apostille. I would contact a nearby Ugandan embassy for advice.

Thanks. I looked at the Uganda London High Commission pages which do not mention legalisation but if Brussels does it I guess London will also. Thanks for your help.

Following up on the Brussels Embassy web page you kindly provided they responded to an email with more details:
Firstly get the cert legalised at Min of Foreign Affairs in Kampala, secondly, and we need more clarification of this, then at your local authority (Uganda? PT? ) and finally, legalisation at the Uganda Embassy in Brussels where one pays the 35€.
Phew! A registry office in Gibralter looks increasingly more attractive with the wedding in PT as planned later. One night stay, birth cert + passport + proof of current residency and that's it. No legalisation required although a Portuguese residency cert would need official translation I guess but checking on that today.
