Please help- getting myself in a tiz!
Hi-
Would the South African department of home affairs, or whichever department deals with applications for study permits, see a reprimand (given to me at 17!) as a conviction?
I ask as I saw a thread which stated that all applications are blocked no matter what the conviction and have seen a form for temporary residancy which only asks about convictions or pending legal proceedings against you- so would they see a reprimand as a conviction?
As in UK law- a reprimand, final warning or caution is not a conviction.
Please help am getting myself overly stressed about this!

Your best bet is to apply for the police clearance certificate (which I think costs a tenner) and see if it is on there. If not, there is no stress. If it is, you should then take it to South Africa House and ask them - if it is practical to do so.
If you weren't convicted of a crime, then you don't have a criminal record as I understand it...?
Pablo is usually the font of such knowledge - I'd see what he says.

It'd come up on the certificate as it's on the pnc for the next three years and after that it'd show as no live trace, but that's of it's even on the pnc and I'm going to get a subject access report done.
I spoke to the people who do the certificates and they say south Africa isn't too bothered about a no live trace certificate (no live trace meaning I did something wrong but only the police can see).
Meaning I'd have to wait an extra year before going really!
Oh I'll contact him, cos I wonder if SA home affairs would say no to a reprimand (not a conviction but a recorded offence).
Thanks for your help!
