Yes. Of course I do. Nothing annoys me more than seeing people (especially kids) in cars without seatbelts.
I also take precautions against being a victim of crime, as I have said. Lots. Absolutely agree that the Government needs to do more about crime. And absolutely agree that there are problems there with their denialism in some respects. That's why I have advocated my view on many occasions: No point in denialism. No point in hysteria/paranoia. Neither of those approaches benefits anyone except the criminals who, on the one hand, are allowed "free rein" and on the other ruin peoples lives and personal freedom without even laying a hand on them. It's akin to what Al Qaeda have set out to do in the UK - and what the UK has (generally) heroically resisted thus far. EDIT: Please take this in context - I really don't want to see "6000 says SA criminals are like Al Qaeda" in future threads! :D |

SA murder rate, per day, about 50. No comparison really. |

Re: moveing to sa
Amazing how many people I know whose 'perceptions' changed, the moment they or their children were held at gunpoint in their own homes, or hijacked by armed men, some of them with little children in the car, who had to scramble to get them out before the thieves took off.
Security bars and dogs do not keep the crims out. A sad case in the paper a few weeks ago, one of the the many that occur daily over there, and has happened to people we all know, involved a grandpa getting shot in his son's house, in an extremely secure gated complex in Pretoria. Anyone who thinks that the bars and dogs will keep them safe, is sadly mistaken. |

Security bars can keep the criminals out to an extent, but they are also the very things that can end up costing you your life. very true, and it does not even take such an experience to get the hell out. Just the thought of such an experience after my daughter was born haunted me continuously while still in SA, even though nothing ever happened and may never have happened. But the thought of it happening was enough for me.

You need to protect yourself, but overprotection can clearly work both ways! |
